John Deere Classic Golf Odds - Bet on PGA Tour

John Deere Classic Golf Odds

With a lot of firepower absent, opening odds suggest a wide open field when the PGA Tour assembles in the heartland of Illinois for this week’s John Deere Classic. With designated events completed and players preparing for a trip overseas for the following two weeks that include the season’s final major, most big names are absent. This tournament sits in a bad spot on the scheduled but does its best to annually attract a strong field. And for the first time in over a decade nine of the top 50 ranked players in the world will be competing. At No. 19 Cameron Young is the highest ranked but sits as the third favorite on the betting board behind Denny McCarthy and Russell Henley. A number of rising stars get a chance to show off and several former champions look for a return to glory, including last year’s wire-to-wire winner J.T. Poston. Odds Analysis

Lucas Glover +6345

Since I list my picks in alphabetical order it just so happens that the biggest dog of the bunch comes up first. And it makes sense to dip down the odds board for value in a field like this. And in a weird staying at the top of the list makes sense, too. So I did some of both with Glover, a former winner at Deere Run, who is also playing solid golf on the lead in. Those two scenarios make taking a look at Glover at his price worthwhile. He won this event two years ago and posted a season-best T4 last week in Detroit after collecting a top 20 in Canada.

Adam Hadwin +2750

He’s either going to be frustrated or extra motivated and I’m banking on the latter, which is why backing Hadwin at a decent price is a good investment. Part of the trio of playoff performers in Detroit, Hadwin came up short extending his title drought. Watching Rickie Fowler end a winless skid at his expense also has to be encouraging for Hadwin, who has paydays in his last three starts including a T12 in Canada.

Denny McCarthy +1450

A non-winner on Tour as the betting favorite doesn’t always happen and gives us an idea of what we’re looking at in this tournament. Several players could likely fill the role and odds will fluctuate, but McCarthy has performed well on the lead in with a playoff loss at the Memorial and a T7 at the Farmers among three top-20s in his last three starts. He was also in contention here last year finishing T6

Seamus Power +4850

With his only two PGA Tour wins in events with a similar field, I think Power is due for a breakout. One of those victories came earlier this season at the Bermuda Championship as part of a great start that saw him survive the cut in nine of his first 10 starts with three top 5s among his seven top 25s. It’s been a bit of a struggle since but Power played well at the Travelers going 69-68 missing the cut on the number.

Adam Schenk +3150

Something about this part of the country brings out the best in Schenk giving me another reason to like him along with his price. The Indiana native has always performed well in similar climates making him a strong choice with a nice pay day. Just last week he finished alone in seventh in Detroit following a T7 in Ohio a few weeks earlier. He withdrew from last year’s tournament but looks to improve on a run that saw him place among the top 6 in his previous two starts at Deere Run.

Course: TPC Deere Run – 7,289 yards, Par 71

TPC Deere Run has hosted the JDC since 2000 with the winning score averaging right around 20-under. Michael Kim torched the layout in 2018 to a record 27-under topping the field by eight swings. Defending champ J.T. Poston led the entire way in 2022 finishing at 21-under, three shots better than a pair of players. Each of the past 13 winners finished 18-under or better with 10 of them at -20 or better, so we can expect low scores to dominate. Deere Run offers some of the widest fairways on Tour but it’s actually the short and accurate hitters that thrive on this track. As long as you are in the fairways, which the field hits over 70 percent of the time, you can attack the greens. Typically a layout that offers up plenty of birdies, the design of the course hasn’t been altered to change that thinking this week.
