Instead of playing for a tournament trophy and a bunch of cash, the field of 60 players will represent their home country with a gold medal at stake as the 2024 Olympic men’s golf competition gets underway. The field will compete on a familiar track with Le Golf National near Paris the host site. The field will play four rounds starting Thursday at the venue that entertained the 2018 Ryder Cup. Coming off his second major championship of the PGA Tour season, Xander Schauffele will defend his gold medal as the second favorite. If you’ve been paying attention to golf this year you probably have a good idea who the favorite is. Looking to add a gold medal to his bursting trophy case that includes six additions this season, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the favorite. Ireland’s Rory McIlroy and Spaniard Jon Rahm round out the top four with all having odds shorter than 10/1. Visit BookMaker.eu for a complete list of betting odds when you’re ready to place a wager.

Odds Analysis
Ludvig Aberg +1665
He’s already played on the biggest stage helping the Europeans win the 2023 Ryder Cup and Aberg’s exquisite play has continued. There are no flaws in his game and he’s a good fit for the course with his accuracy on approach. And Aberg is looking forward to making amends for his MC at The Open a few weeks ago, just the second time he failed to play the weekend this season. His demeanor is the same whether he’s winning a tournament or missing a cut, which helps him on the course as well.
Tommy Fleetwood +2068
Not many have experienced Le Golf National the way Fleetwood has. He was part of the winning 2018 Ryder Cup squad going 4-1-0 and he also won the Open de France on this layout in 2017 at 12-under, which is the fourth lowest winning to par score in the last 12 editions. He’s played well this year securing nine top 20s worldwide with a win earlier at DP World Tour’s Dubai Open.
Matthieu Pavon +8581
With the games in Paris it’s imperative to have a Frenchman on the list, right? Well, Pavon isn’t just any dude from France. He’s having a breakout season on the PGA Tour winning his first tournament at the Farmers Open in January and in June he was T5 at the U.S. Open, his best finish in a major championship. There has to be some pressure attached to him as a local and if Pavon can handle that he has an entire country rooting him on.
Xander Schauffele +623
This is where we get to the golfers with the best odds of winning. Schauffele won an Olympic gold medal before winning a major title and he now has the chance to even his winnings at two each if he can successfully defend. We could make the argument that the X-man is the hottest player entering the Games having won two majors and placing among the top 10 in 12 of his 18 starts this year. And don’t forget he’s the defending champ clearing the field by a swing in Japan.
Scottie Scheffler +424
There is a definite gap in the field with the top players from other countries not serious contenders to win a medal. If there wasn’t a cap on players from each country we’d see more Americans in the field. It is what it is and Scheffler has been it winning six PGA Tour tiles this season. In 16 starts he’s finished outside the top 10 twice, TWICE. That kinda sums it up right there. Not only has he won tournaments he’s been contending in ones he didn’t. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him with the gold hanging around his neck on Sunday.
Course: Le Golf National – 7,174 yards, par 71
It’s not a long course prepped at under 7,200 yards for the Olympics, but it is tricky with tight fairways that have a lot of slopes, greens that tend to run fast and deep, links-style bunkers. A good number of players have experience on the Albatross Course at Le Golf National since it hosts the DP World Tour’s Open de France and was also the sight of the 2018 Ryder Cup with Rahm and McIlroy part of the winning European team. In fact three other members of Team Europe – Tommy Fleetwood, Thorbjorn Olesen and Alex Noren – are also scheduled to pet it up. With each of the final four holes surrounded by water, some interesting times await at the clubhouse. The last 10 winners of the Open de France averaged about 10-under par.
