PGA Championship Golf Props

We might as well compare golf’s major championships to the Super Bowl, at least from a betting standpoint. When the majors roll around the betting options increase and you can find an increased prop menu at BookMaker.eu. With this week’s PGA Championship being the only major on the PGA Tour’s season schedule thanks to COVID, oddsmakers pulled out all the stops. The world’s best golfers have assembled in northern California to tackle a difficult TPC Harding Park layout. Here’s a prop hint: don’t expect many low scores this week.

There are, of course, the usual pick the winner and tournament and round matchup bets. And the major championships bring out a host of additional wagering options. If you’re looking for a little side action, BookMaker is the right place. Let’s take a look at some of the prop bet options and find out where you can make additional coin while wagering on the PGA Championship.

Will there be a Hole-in-One at 2020 PGA Championship?

Yes +110

No -150

Everyone likes to see an ace. It’s like a perfect game in baseball only it takes one swing compared to 27 outs. But you get the idea, it’s hard. This isn’t an easy venue and it’s been spiced up to host its first major championship. There are only four holes on the entire lot that can produce an ace and considering the tree-lined fairways will obstruct the view it’s a good bet to lean toward NO on this prop.

Will there be a Playoff at 2020 PGA Championship?

Yes +300

No -450

It’s not unusual to see the PGA Championship or any major go to a playoff. However, considering the number of great golfers at each event you expect it to happen more often. The last PGA Championship to go extra holes was in 2011, which was the second straight playoff. The Open in 2015 was the last major to have a playoff. Between 1977 and 2011 the PGA Championship went to extra holes nearly 32 percent of the time. I guess you could say we’re due for a playoff.

Tiger Woods Top-20 Finish +150

What’s a major championship without Tiger props? Well, it probably isn’t a major. Anyway, we’re taking a risk on this one considering the Big Cat has teed it up just once since the shutdown with that start ending in a T40 at the Memorial. But it’s Tiger and anything can happen. Does the 2019 Masters ring a bell? Woods has two additional top-10s in his last seven majors and he’s taking on a course he’s familiar with. Any time you get Tiger at plus-odds he’s worth a look.

Tony Finau Top-20 Finish +175

As you can see I’m taking a positive approach to this tournament while also trying to find some value picks. And I see plenty of value in Finau in the top-20. He has trouble finishing things but at least he hangs around long enough to have a chance. I wavered on this pick after last week’s showing before realizing he isn’t a fit for TPC Southwind. His game better fits Harding Park and he’s finished inside the top-20 in eight of his 15 career major starts. Distance is key this week and Finau can bomb with the best of them.

Lowest Round Score at 2020 PGA Championship

Over 64.5 +290

Under 64.5 -380

We touched on this at the beginning. TPC Harding Park is a tough layout with thick rough and tree-lined fairways. It can make a pro look like an Average Joe. While the course will be hard enough to overcome, the conditions along the coast add another level to the equation. There’s nothing colder than a summer’s day in San Francisco as the saying goes. Tight fairways will be tough to hit and chipping around the green isn’t a piece of cake. The trees will take some of the aggressiveness away and I can easily see 65 being a winning round. Oddsmakers think otherwise and rightfully so with the best of the best on hand, but even the best can’t overcome Mother Nature.
