Odds Analysis
Justin Rose +700
Rose has won twice this season and he nearly won for a third time at the BMW Championship. He has finished in the Top 25 in all four majors. He has a career-high ten top 10 finishes this season. He missed the cut at the Northern Trust but he finished in a tie for 2nd at the Dell Technologies Championship. He has five straight top 10 finishes in this event.
Dustin Johnson +800
I just can’t get too excited about taking D.J., as he simply hasn’t played that well recently. He has simply been making too many mistakes. He does have four top ten finishes in his career in this event and he obviously has the talent to win, but his current form doesn’t inspire much confidence.
Rory McIlroy +800
I think Rory is a bit overvalued at these odds. He won the TOUR Championship in 2016, but he would need to win this event and then get some help to win the FedExCup.
Justin Thomas +900
No one has ever won the FedExCup in back-to-back years, but Thomas is very capable. He said last year that he was annoyed that he didn’t win the TOUR Championship even though he did win the FedEx Cup. I think you can make a strong case for Thomas this week.
Brooks Koepka +1200
Koepka has been great in majors, but he hasn’t done much otherwise. I do think that will eventually change, but I still can’t back him until he starts to win consistently. He finished in a tie for 18th in this event in 2015 and he tied for sixth last year.
Tiger Woods +1200
I say every week that I do expect Tiger to win again, but that I don’t think it will come against a stellar field. Tiger has been playing well, but he is still not one of the best players in the world.
Bryson Dechambeau +1800
The FedExCup points leader is not getting much respect from the oddsmakers, as he is listed at +1800. A No. 1 seed has not won the TOUR Championship since Tiger Woods in 2009.
Rickie Fowler +1800
I think Rickie is a very good player but he simply doesn’t win enough to bet him. He always seems to be in contention and he gets high finishes, but he has trouble getting over the hump and winning.
Course
East Lake Golf Club is a par 70 that measures 7,385 yards. It is a course where Bobby Jones learned how to play and it is where Jones completed the 1930 Grand Slam. The course has hosted the TOUR Championship since 2004.
