PGA Tour Picks – Odds to Win Memorial Tournament

Odds to Win Memorial Tournament

It’s always good for the PGA Tour when Tiger Woods is involved, and the Big Cat is back on the prowl ready to peg it up this week at the Memorial Tournament. Woods hasn’t taken a competitive shot since missing the cut at the PGA Championship, yet he moved up the ranking to his highest spot in five years. Woods leapfrogged Justin Thomas to take over No. 5 on the OWGR and is one of seven golfers ranked among the top-10 scheduled to compete. No. 4 Rory McIlroy opened as the betting favorite at BookMaker.eu with odds of +825 with Woods the second favorite at +1450. The invitation-only event is hosted by Muirfield Village Golf Club, AKA Jack’s Place.

Odds Analysis

Tiger Woods +1450

His strategy between the first two majors of the season didn’t pay off and Woods is ready to get some swings in before Pebble Beach. After winning The Masters, Woods didn’t compete again until the PGA Championship and he missed the cut. He’s feeling better and his track record at the Memorial speaks for itself. He’s won this event five times and has finished among the top-10 in half of his 16 starts. Woods has lost distance off the tee and Muirfield better suits his game than Bethpage Black, giving fans hope that Woods can tie Sam Snead’s record for PGA Tour wins this week.

Jordan Spieth +3050

Another solid showing last week has Spieth on the verge of his first Tour win since 2017. His putting was strong again leading the field in strokes gained, an area that was part of the problem leading to Spieth’s run of poor play. He will need to continue with the flat stick this week after a final round 72 knocked him down to T8 at Colonial. Still, there are encouraging signs with his game and it’s just a matter of time before he returns to the top of the leaderboard.

Matt Kuchar +1875

If you’re looking for a course fit, Kuchar is your guy. Nobody has gained more strokes over the field than Kuchar in his last nine starts at Muirfield and he has a win among his 10 top-15 finishes. Recent form is strong, too, putting him fifth on the current odds board. He has a pair of wins and two runner-up showings this season while leading the Tour in greens in regulation.

Rickie Fowler +1900

After shaky efforts with a T36 at Bethpage and MC at the Charles Schwab, Fowler might just be the sleeper pick in the field. He isn’t what you would call a longshot, but he slipped down the odds board after his last two starts. If he can reclaim past success at Muirfield, Fowler should be among the contenders. He was T2 and T8 in his last two starts here with a scoring average of 69.4. That’s solid work from a solid player.

Course: Muir field Village Golf Club – 7,392 yards, Par 72

Designed by Jack Nicklaus and affectionately known as Jack’s Place, Muirfield Village has generous fairways and fast greens. It plays nearly 7,400 yards at par-72, but strategically placed bunkers surrounding a number of greens leaves a lot of the field playing for a second shot. And that has been the winning formula over the years as opposed to bombing it off the tee. You don’t want to get caught on the beach with a success rate for sand saves below the Tour average. Most golfers concur that Muirfield is a second-shot layout that yields favorable scores with proper positioning off the tee.
