Valuable FedEx Cup points are on the line when the PGA Tour gears up for the final event of the regular season at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C. The top 125 players in the standings will advance to the playoffs and several golfers on the bubble will attempt to amass the required number of points as 13 players are within 50 points of the cutoff line. That will make for some tense moments on the 7,127-yard, par-70 Sedgefield Country Club layout. Webb Simpson opened as the betting favorite at online sportsbooks with Brandt Snedeker looking to defend his title against a hungry field.

Odds Analysis
Viktor Hovland +2800
The recent crop of young phenoms has made its mark on the game. We saw Matthew Wolff get his first victory a few weeks ago and Collin Morikawa followed with his win last week at the Barracuda. That leaves Hovland looking up at his fellow rookies, but matching their feat should happen sooner rather than later. He’s been accurate in his brief Tour stops and the rest of his game is pretty sharp. He’s gained strokes on approach and hasn’t finished worse than T16 in any of his past three starts. His game fits this track making him a value pick.
Brandt Snedeker +2200
Two of his nine career PGA wins have come at the Wyndham, including last year when he scorched Sedgefield for a course record 59 in the opening round. The outcome wasn’t decided until the final day, however, when Snedeker’s 65 gave him a three-shot win. It was his third top-5 in his last four trips and fifth top-10 overall. He enters the week having claimed four top-20s in his last eight starts.
Jordan Spieth +1600
The positive vibes continue to resonate from Spieth about his game and we’re waiting for that victory drought, which is two years now, to come to an end soon. Unlike The Open and the U.S. Open, Spieth finished the St. Jude Invitational strong and said he made more strides in his game last week than in any week this year. He returns to Sedgefield for the first time since losing his debut in a playoff in 2013.
Kyle Stanley +8000
He’s a risky wager but the odds are enticing for Stanley to pull off the win. We’ve seen a downturn in his game since he emerged in majors and WGCs the last two seasons. He’s simply trying to find his touch most of the year. His ball striking has improved and he’s advanced to the weekend in five straight starts with a pair of top-25 showings. It isn’t much, but a strong approach game on this layout should help. And if the putter cooperates, Stanley is a gold mine.
Cameron Smith +3500
The stars are aligned for Smith to have a big week. With his game back on solid ground after struggling for several months, Smith hits a track he enjoys playing with a ton of confidence. He’s 2 for 3 at Sedgefield with a T7 two years ago and a T18 in 2015, posting a scoring average of 67.4. “I love this course. This is one of my favorite for the whole season,” Smith said ahead of the event. His standing has improved over his last three starts with a T29, T20 and a T12 at last week’s St. Jude Invitational.
Course: Sedgefield Country Club – 7,127 yards, Par 70
Part of the rotation for the Greater Greensboro Open, Sedgefield enters its 12th year serving as host for the Wyndham Championship. Playing at 7,127 yards, the layout is short by Tour standards making driving distance a non-factor. Two years ago Henrik Stenson played the entire week without a driver in his bag. Proving his point, Stenson went and won the tournament. Accuracy is critical. The field averages better than 80 percent GIR from the fairways with a significant decline when hitting from the rough. The course is no picnic, however. There are numerous water hazards, doglegs and small undulating greens that will test the patience of every player.
