With both the PGA and European Tours shutdown for the winter break, that doesn’t mean there is no golf to wager on. A limited betting market is available for the PNC Championship, which will take place at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida. The event formerly known as the Father/Son Challenge brings together top PGA Tour and LPGA major-winning talent and a family member to compete as a team. Now that his son Charlie is old enough to compete, Tiger Woods will make his tournament debut. Team Woods is one of four that has odds of 6/1 or shorter to win the event. Justin Thomas and his father Mike opened as the betting favorites. You can’t overlook defending champion and two-time winner Team Langer, though. Check out BookMaker.eu for an updated list of odds and place your wager on the 2020 PNC Championship.

Format
The event got a little more interesting with the inclusion of Justin Thomas and his old man followed by Tiger and his boy. That’s all good news for tournament organizers and bettors. The field consists of 20 teams that will play a 36-hole scramble. The format has been tweaked over the years to allow for daughters and grandsons to compete. In order to qualify one team member must have won a major championship or THE PLAYERS Championship. Between the 20 Tour pros they’ve won 66 major championships, so you can expect the competition to be fierce.
The entire tournament will cover 36 holes played over Saturday and Sunday in a scramble format. There is one twist, though. Instead of a scramble the field will play a shamble. What’s the difference you ask? Well, a shamble uses the best drive with each team member playing his or her own ball starting with the second shot. Three teams finished 36 holes at 24-under last year. Team Langer won with an eagle putt from Jason on the first playoff hole outlasting Team Goosen and Team Lehman.
The Field
With Justin Thomas the best player in the field and his old man not a bad golfer in his own right, Team Thomas is easily the one to beat. Mike Thomas is a PGA of America teaching pro and he’s also Justin’s swing coach, so he knows a little about the game. There’s no pressure on Charlie Woods, just being the son of Tiger is enough. A lot has been made in weeks leading up to the event of Charlie’s trash talking to Justin Thomas. Now it’s time for the younger Woods to back it up. And don’t think Charlie is just showing up to have fun. He’s already posted a bogey-free round in a junior tournament.
Bernhard Langer has been the most successful at this event having won in 2005 and 2006 with son Stefan. He’s won twice more with current partner son Jason, including a thrilling playoff win last year when Jason drained an eagle putt on the first playoff hole. Jason competes on the University of Pennsylvania golf team. There are some exceptional golfers in the field with Team Lehman boasting a pair of pros. They lost in a playoff to Team Langer last year. Tom Lehman has been on the PGA Tour for many years and son Thomas just completed a top-10 finish in an event on the Outlaw Tour.
