Procore Championship PGA Odds

It’s back to work for the PGA Tour with a full field headed to California wine country for the FedExCup Fall opening Procore Championship, contested at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa. A wrinkle in the schedule adopted last year puts the fall events – from the Procore to the RSM Classic – in a separate category as an extension to the just completed regular season. Players receive the same tournament benefits with the top 125 in the standings retaining their Tour card for next year. Betting favorite Sahith Theegala earned his first PGA Tour victory at this event last year ending a two-year run from Max Homa. In fact each of the previous five winners are all scheduled to peg it up starting Thursday. Visit BookMaker.eu for a complete updated list of betting odds when you’re ready to make a wager.

Odds Analysis

Cameron Champ +8009

I’m not throwing a lot down on Champ since he’s been erratic at best. However, he finished the regular season with three straight made cuts, equaling his number from the previous 16 events, and he has a history at this tournament. Champ ended a streak of seven straight early exits by finishing T50 at the Barracuda then had his best showing of the season with a T12 at the 3M Open. He won this event in 2020 and that’s good enough for me to at least take a look.

Harris English +4005

An otherwise strong season ended on a sour note for English finishing outside the top 30 with two MCs in his last seven starts. Over his first 14 events, though, he placed among the top 20 in half of them with a pair of top 10s included. He also has a simple game that translates to the Silverado layout. He showed that off two years ago when he closed with a 66 to finish T9.

Max Homa +2503

Returning to a familiar place that’s treated him well over the years could be exactly what Homa needs to get his game back in shape. Things were going smoothly with a T8 at the Wells Fargo in May his sixth top 20 in 11 starts. But since then he failed to earn a top 20 in his last nine starts. Homa went back-to-back here winning in 2021 and 2022. His bid for a third straight win fell a few shots short as he finished T7 last year. With a scoring average of 68 over those three events Homa should be in contention once again.

Matt Kuchar +5505

Kuchar ended the regular season playing his best golf with a T3 at the 3M Open followed by a T12 at the Wyndham Championship. Toss in a T25 at the RMC in June and Kooch has three top 25s in his last four starts. There’s also a comfort level for him at Silverado with finishes of T7 and T12 in his last two starts here. He’s probably pissed about missing the playoffs for the first time giving him added incentive.

Sahith Theegala +951

I don’t normally back the favorite but it’s hard not to believe Theegala is the best player in the field. That doesn’t mean he’s going to win but that gives him an advantage. And besides, you don’t always get the favorite at this price. His breakout season started here last year when Theegala matched a tournament scoring record at 21-under. He then went on to collect eight top 10s among 11 top 20s during the regular year. He also has two additional top 15s in four career starts here.

Course: Silverado Resort and Spa – 7,123 yards, Par 72

The North Course at Silverado has hosted since the tournament moved to Napa in 2015. The layout isn’t particularly long at less than 7,200 yards, and it isn’t difficult. There is no style that fits Silverado better than others. Some players will try and hit the snot out of the ball to gain an advantage on approach. Others will club down to navigate around the tree-lined fairways and stay out of the rough. Getting off line from the tee box isn’t a major problem with the rough not very penal. There were some big changes to the course ahead of last year’s tournament with a number of holes re-routed, though there were no structural changes. It didn’t seem to affect the players with Theegala matching the tournament low score of 21-under to win by two swings. Stewart Cink set the record in 2020 also winning by two shots.
