Quicken Loans National Preview, Odds and Predictions

2018-Bookmaker-PGA-Golf-Quicken-Loans-National-Odds

Rickie Fowler and Tiger Woods headline the field for the Quicken Loans National which begins on Thursday. It is really a weak field overall, as just four of the world’s top 30 are in the field. Fowler is the clear favorite in terms of the betting odds to win this event at +650, while Tiger is actually the second choice at odds of +1050. Let’s look at the odds and predictions for the Quicken Loans National.

Odds Analysis

Rickie Fowler +650

I am always leery about taking Fowler at a short price simply because he doesn’t win often enough to be favored. He does have some good numbers for this event, as he tied for third last year and he is 21st on the PGA Tour in greens-in-regulation. Rickie might indeed win this week, but I can’t back him at this price.

Tiger Woods +1050

The price on Tiger is ridiculous, as there is no way he should be the second choice in the betting. He has won this event twice, but he is not anywhere near the player he once was. That doesn’t mean he won’t eventually win another tournament and it could come this week, as the field is weak, but I can’t take him at these odds.

Marc Leishman +1650

If you look at last year’s stats then Leishman might be a contender, but if you look at his recent play you have to throw him out. He has not finished better than tied for 45th in his last three starts.

Kyle Stanley +2050

The defending champion will try and do something that has never been done in this event’s history and that is win in back-to-back years. He is third on the PGA Tour in greens in regulation so perhaps he can be in the mix on the weekend.

Francesco Molinari +2050

I think you can make a case for Molinari, as he has a win, a second and a tie for 25th in his last three starts. He only concern is that this will be his first tournament at TPC Potomac.

Charles Howell III +2550

If this was a better field I would not take a shot with Howell III because he rarely wins, but the field is not that great and Howell nearly won last year, as he lost in a playoff. He is 27th on the PGA Tour in GIR.

Kevin Streelman +4050

The first of my two longshots this week is Streelman who tied for 17th last year. He is fifth on the Tour in GIR and he looked like he might finally be getting things going with his irons last week at the Travelers.

Joaquin Niemann +4050

My other longshot is Niemann who took some time off to rest after missing the cut in Memphis. He had two straight top 10 finishes before that missed cut.

Course: TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm is a par 70 that measures just 7,107 yards, but it plays difficult, as it was the fourth-toughest course on the PGA Tour last season. Driving accuracy is a stat to consider this week, as those missing the fairway will have a very difficult time on this course. Last year the top 25 in terms of finishing position hit 67% of greens in regulation, so GIR is another stat to consider for this week.
