One final stop ahead of the season’s third major has the PGA Tour north of the border for the RBC Canadian Open , taking place for the first time at Oakdale Golf and Country Club in Toronto. A strong field is headlined by the longest defending champion. Rory McIlroy won this event when it was held in 2019 and following a two-year hiatus due to COVID he triumphed again. McIlroy is heavily favored in the outright market to become the first three-peat winner at this event, and in order to do that he’ll need to successfully navigate another course. There is a strong contingent of Canadian players led by Corey Conners, who is ranked the highest in the FedExCup standings among the 20 players looking to get a win on home soil for the first time since 1954. Conners, Adam Svensson and Mackenzie Hughes each have a win already this season. Check out a complete list of matchup odds at BookMaker.eu when you’re ready to make a wager.

Need to Know
Located in the Ontario capital of Toronto, Oakdale Golf and Country Club will serve as host for the first time. The 18-hole championship layout will consist of holes from the 27 that are available on the property. The first nine will arguably be the more difficult measuring around 400 yards longer with smaller greens and thicker rough. It would be a good idea for players to stay clear of that hazard. The only significant event held at Oakdale since a major renovation in 2018 was the qualifier ahead of last year’s Canadian Open. The composite makeup has the course measuring 7,264 yards at par 72, which isn’t terribly long by Tour standards. However, the newness of it should help level the playing field.
RBC Canadian Open Matchup Picks
Rory McIlroy -129 vs. Tyrrell Hatton
The price wasn’t too steep and backing McIlroy in this event is a good move no matter where it’s played. The two-time defending champ triumphed on different courses in 2019 and 2022 and the chance at become the first to win three in a row should add to the occasion. He also seems to be hitting another gear after a brief lull with back-to-back T7s at the Memorial and PGA Championship.
Justin Rose +100 vs. Tommy Fleetwood
I had these two as outright champs in another article and was torn about this matchup since I think both have an outstanding chance on a layout that appears to be a good fit. In the end I went with Rose based on recent form and, of course, the price since I’m always in search of value. Rose was T9-T12 in his last two starts as part of a run of four straight top 25s.
Sam Burns -115 vs. Cameron Young
The highest ranked player in the field in the FedExCup standings, Burns just keeps chugging along. A marvelous run a few months ago that included a win at the WGC Match Play and three other top 15s in a five start stretch was interrupted by a pair of MCs. Snapping out of the that fog, Burns claimed a T6 at the Schwab a few weeks ago and finished T16 at the Memorial to get back on track. And after playing those two beastly courses he should enjoy a smooth ride at Oakdale.
Corey Conners +113 vs. Cameron Young
I have to back a Canuck in the country’s national open and Conners is the likely pick. The pressure of winning on home soil can sometimes be overwhelming, but Conners has faced stressful situations in the past emerging the better player. He is after all among the top 30 in the world and the top-ranked Canadian talent. Ball striking and accuracy will play a big role in which players make up the final groupings and Conners is solid in both areas. Catching him at plus odds is a bonus as well.
David Lipsky +116 vs. Mark Hubbard
Backing a hot player makes sense and Lipsky is on a rare run of confidence-boosting form. In what’s otherwise been an inconsistent season for him, Lipsky had his best two-start stretch collecting a T16 at the Schwab followed by a T12 at last week’s Memorial. The downside is we haven’t seen three solid starts from him in some time, but the good news is that a hot player at this price doesn’t come around often.
