RBC Canadian Open Matchup Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. Glen Abbey is a pretty easy course, so we are going to see a lot of birdies and eagles this week. Accuracy is not a must this week, but hitting greens in regulation is, as nine of the top finishers ranked in the Top 15 in GIR last season in this event. Driving distance is also a key stat, as 11 of the top 13 players on the leaderboard averaged 300 yards or more.
Dustin Johnson -170 vs. Brooks Koepka
I expect a bounce back from Johnson this week on a course he likes. He simply couldn’t find the fairway last week at the Open and struggled. Accuracy is not nearly as important this week and I expect him to contend for the win in a tournament he has finished runner-up in twice. This is also a play against Koepka who simply hasn’t won anything except the U.S. Open other than his win in Phoenix in 2015. The price is high, but I will take Johnson in this matchup.
Kevin Kisner +105 vs. Joaquin Niemann
I know that Niemann is having a good rookie season, but I just can’t see him being favored over Kisner. If Kisner can put last week’s disappointment at the Open behind him I expect him to be in the mix again this week and we get him at plus money in this matchup.
Brandt Snedeker -110 vs. Billy Horschel
Snedeker won this event in 2013 and he tied for 5th in 2016. He is playing well of late with a tie for 6th at the St. Jude and a tie for 3rd at Greenbrier. I also think Horschel could have a letdown last week after failing to win the Barracuda. I will take Snedeker in this matchup.
Cameron Champ -115 vs. Adam Hadwin
You may not have heard much about Champ but he is a bomber who should love Glen Abbey. He is ranked first on the Web.com Tour this year in driving distance. He comes in playing well with six straight finishes of tie for 11th or better on the Web.com Tour. Hadwin is one of Canada’s big hopes but he has yet to deliver. I will take Champ in this matchup.
