Odds Analysis
Dustin Johnson +800
If there was ever a favorite that was mismatched for a course it would be Johnson at Harbour Town. This course is just not suited to long hitters. Johnson is still capable of playing great and winning this event, but I am not taking him.
Paul Casey +1200
Casey finished the Masters in great form but I am definitely not thrilled about this price, as Casey almost never wins. It is hard to make a case for a player at these odds who simply doesn’t win that often.
Matt Kuchar +1850
Kuchar would seem to be a good fit for this event, as he plays his irons well and makes few mistakes. I definitely like his chances better than I do of the top two favorites.
Marc Leishman +2550
Leishman looked really good for a while at the Masters last week and then faded. I don’t know that he can quickly put last week behind him, so I will be looking elsewhere.
Brian Harman +3050
Harman said he has been looking forward to playing in this event and he has the perfect game for winning at Harbour Town, as he hits great approach shots and putts well. I think he has a big chance at odds of +3050.
Adam Hadwin +3250
Another player who would seem to fit well at Harbour Town is Hadwin who doesn’t have great distance off the tee but hits good approaches and scrambles well. He grew up in Canada on courses like this one that features a lot of trees.
Patrick Cantlay +3250
Cantlay is my day late, dollar short candidate this week. I picked him as a longshot last week and he didn’t play well. He has a game similar to many other winners at Harbour Town like Furyk Bryan and Donald.
Ollie Schniederjans +4050
My last longshot is Schniederjans who played well last year in this event with four rounds under 70. His lack of power won’t hurt him on this course and we get him at odds of more than 40-1.
Course: Harbour Town Golf Links is a par 71 that measures 7,099 yards. It is a course that really doesn’t favor power hitters so Johnson may be overvalued as the favorite. The course has narrow fairways and it has pine trees lining many fairways. The greens are small and they have a lot of contours.
