One member of the PGA Tour will have a joyous Holiday weekend with the final round of the third Rocket Mortgage Classic concluding on Independence Day. In its brief existence we’ve seen some crazy things happen at the Detroit Golf Club. Two years ago late qualifier Nate Lashley led wire-to-wire for the win. Last year tournament favorite Bryson DeChambeau outlasted Matthew Wolff to claim victory. And once again DeChambeau is the betting favorite as a number of players get in a final tune up ahead of the Open Championship in a few weeks. After DeChambeau the field looks evenly spread out on the odds board allowing for some intriguing matchups to wager on. Visit BookMaker.eu for a complete list of round and tournament matchup odds when you’re ready to place a wager.

Need to Know
Playing at 7,370 yards and par 72, the Detroit Golf Club is a relatively straightforward track, though it remains a mystery to some since this is just the third playing. The property consists of two courses with 17 holes of the North Course being played along with one from the South Course. A redesign on the 12th hole tee box added 30 yards to the length, though it’s still relatively easy to navigate. DGC is one of the flattest courses on Tour with a good mix of long and short holes to test a player’s skill level. DeChambeau destroyed the track last year finishing 23-under to win by three swings. Scoring can be easy bringing more of the field into the mix.
Rocket Mortgage Classic Matchup Picks
Matthew Wolff +115 vs. Gary Woodland
After taking some time off Wolff made a glorious return with a T15 in the U.S. Open. Playing competitive golf is hard enough when you do it every week and asking Wolff to be at the top of his game is an unreasonable request. So it wasn’t a surprise that he missed the cut at the Travelers. He did finish with a 69, though, which should at least make the effort feel better. And returning to a track where he battled DeChambeau to the wire should also be a boost, which is why I’m backing him at plus-odds.
Phil Mickelson +115 vs. Charles Howell III
Perception is everything and winning a major changes everyone’s view. Mickelson’s only top-20 finish in his last 20 starts was his victory in the PGA Championship, but what a win it was. Lefty dropped like a rock after that but we’re talking about one of the best golfers ever. This might be his farewell tour, which is why he’s in the field this week. And there’s a chance he can qualify for the Ryder Cup team with more good showings over the next several weeks. At plus-odds I’ll drop a few bucks on Lefty and see how it plays out.
Jason Kokrak -105 vs. Joaquin Niemann
It pays to see how players perform on correlated courses and in this case Kokrak stands out. DGC is similar to Colonial in a lot of ways and that’s where Kokrak earned his second win of the season just a month ago. If you’re looking to back Kokrak you better hope that’s the case since he was T49 prior to the Schwab and pulled a MC at the U.S. Open after. Still, it’s not a stretch to favor him. He placed among the top-20 nine times this season with five those doubling as top-5s.
Will Zalatoris -105 vs. Webb Simpson
Will or Webb? That was the dilemma I faced when scoping out this matchup. Zalatoris has cooled off a bit since his scorching start finishing T59 in the Schwab and missing the cut at Torrey Pines in his last two starts. Now that the hoopla has subsided this is the perfect time for Zalatoris to strike. And his metrics suggest a good week so I’m doubling down on Z-man.
Doc Redman +115 vs. Emiliano Grillo
We’re not backing an outright here so playing Redman at plus-odds makes sense. He’s played the weekend in his last five starts, and that’s half the battle in a matchup. He’s missing the big finish, though, making him an easier pick in this market. He was co-runner-up at Congaree a few weeks ago and placed in the top-10 at the Byron Nelson. And he has fond memories of the DGC with a second place showing in 2019 earning him his first PGA Tour card.
