Tony Finau is the betting favorite looking to defend his title at the Rocket Mortgage Classic as the PGA Tour makes its way to Detroit this week. Looking to become the first two-time winner at this young event, Finau set a tournament scoring record with his 5-shot win at the Detroit Golf Club last year that came in July when the tournament schedule was adjusted. This year marks a return to the usual slot on the schedule right around Independence Day. With all designated events completed and the season’s final major still a few weeks out, some of the game’s bigger names are enjoying a week off. Still, the field is littered with top-flight players, including seven of the top 25 on the OWGR. Visit BookMaker.eu for a complete updated list of betting odds when you’re ready to place a wager.

VIDEO Odds Analysis
Austin Eckroat +5000
Two of the previous four winners were first-timers on the PGA Tour, which really doesn’t mean anything. But Eckroat is looking for that maiden title and is playing superb golf entering a tournament that would seemingly allow for someone to hoist the hardware for a first time. It was tough at the start of the season, but we’ve seen a change in fortune lately with seven straight paydays finishing among the top 25 four times. Eckroat came up short at the Byron Nelson in May settling for a T2 and posted an impressive top 10 at the U.S. Open. He was T24 last week and is priced right for a guy with plenty of upside.
Harris English +4000
This is a perfect tournament for a solid veteran to show off. And English has been flirting with the top of leaderboards for the last few months. He’s got some life in his game after hip surgery last year shelved him and taking his time to get right. Since March we’ve seen English capture podiums at the API and Wells Fargo and most recently a T8 at the U.S. Open. And he’s offered at a good price for a veteran champion.
Rickie Fowler +1200
Fowler is either going to break his four-year winless drought or I’m going to stop backing him. He’s paid off handsomely for me in tournament matchups with 14 top 25s in 19 starts and I think with less pressure at this event he can avoid the pitfalls that plagued him in previous tournaments. His familiarity with four starts at the DGC should also help.
Max Homa +1800
With two straight MCs and four in his last seven starts I’m going to give Homa the benefit of the doubt since he was so good earlier in the season. Still, backing him for the outright would’ve been much easier if the price was a little higher. I can’t complain too much, though, since he closed the Travelers with a 65 missing the cut by one. And Detroit has been kind to him with two top 25s in three lifetime starts.
Aaron Rai +6000
I ventured further down the odds board with a few picks, but Rai is as low as I go. The DGC setup favors accuracy and Rai is a sharpshooter. He also enters on a nice run that includes a T12 at the Schwab, T3 in Canada and T24 at TPC River Highlands. And did I mention first time Tour winners earlier. I sure did.
Course: Detroit Golf Club (North) – 7,370 yards, Par 72
The North Course at Detroit Golf Club will serve as host for a fifth consecutive year. More than a century old the property underwent an extensive overhaul ahead of the inaugural playing of the RMC in 2019 with additional yardage added prior to the 2022 tournament stretching the course to 7,370 yards. It is one of the flattest courses on Tour and the pros have navigated the property expertly with previous winners all finishing 18-under or better. The track has a good balance of short and long holes to test a player’s skill. However, it is straightforward with the distance average by Tour standards. Bunkers surround nearly every green and the rough is thick. Overall, though, scoring is easy making contenders of just about everyone in the field.
