It’s back to every man for himself when the PGA Tour season resumes this week in Jackson, Mississippi for the Sanderson Farms Championship. The team format at the Ryder Cup was fun with Team USA dominating in the victory, and a number of big names on both sides are sitting this one out. Defending champ Sergio Garcia is the only Ryder Cup participant in the field and he’s the second favorite behind Sam Burns on the odds board. With no player having shorter than 16/1 odds the tightly-packed field gives us a number of fun tournament and round matchups. Check out the current odds for those matchups at BookMaker.eu when you’re ready to place a wager.

Need to Know
A move to the fall in 2014 also brought a change in venue with the 7,461-yard, par-72 Country Club of Jackson serving as host for the eighth consecutive year. In 2019 the tournament got a boost to stand-alone status with a full 500 FedExCup points awarded to the winner. As a result we’ve seen a bump in the talent pool, though taking place a week after the Ryder Cup hurts the field. Players get a resort course this week that’s yielded low scores in the past. Two years ago Cameron Champ set the 72-hole tournament record on this layout at 21-under and the past six winners all scored -18 or better. Tree-lined fairways, greenside bunkers on a number of holes, and water around six others are merely obstacles and not hazards.
Sanderson Farms Championship Matchup Picks
Sungjae Im -105 vs. Will Zalatoris
It was hard to go against Zalatoris in this matchup, but since I’m looking for value in my matchups Im offers plenty of it. After a bumpy run during the middle of last season, Im had a strong finish and he has some unfinished business to tend to here. Two years ago Im lost to Sebastian Munoz in a playoff. The course yields a lot of birdies and Im is one of the best on Tour at recording them making this pick even easier. And you won’t find him with odds this short very often.
Mito Pereira +137 vs. Corey Conners
I saw the odds for this matchup and just about jumped out of my chair. Pereira is still a relative unknown on the PGA Tour but he’s quickly making a name for himself. He earned a spot at the big table after registering three Korn Ferry Tour victories, including back-to-back titles before making the jump. He’s done enough to get over the jitters and he is coming off a podium finish in Napa two weeks ago. I just can’t pass on the Chilean at this price, so I won’t.
Kevin Streelman +121 vs. Cameron Tringale
Streelman has plenty of experience with some success at Jackson CC and at plus odds he’s definitely worth a look. He hasn’t won on Tour in six years and this is a field that suits him just fine. He hung around in a number of events last season earning a top-10 in the PGA Championship and the Wyndham Championship. He had one of the best rounds of his career at this joint last year firing a final round 64 to finish fourth, his second top-10 in four starts.
Keegan Bradley +120 vs. Charley Hoffman
Bradley showed just how good of a fit his game is on this layout last year using his distance and accuracy to grab a share of fourth in his debut. He accumulated six top-20s over his last 11 starts last season and opens the new campaign feeling good about the direction his game is heading. This is another matchup that surprised me with the odds and at this price it’s hard not to throw a few bills down on Bradley.
Seamus Power -101 vs. Carlos Ortiz
Quietly putting together a nice season Power soared into the top-75 in the world rankings last season. He made the cut in his last 11 starts recording four top-10s including a win in the Barbasol Championship where he finished 21-under. It was a mixed bag for him at this event last year when he opened with a 65 and missed the cut with a second-round 79. He had two straight top 20s prior to that so I’ll take last year’s result as the exception and not the norm.
