Sanderson Farms Championship PGA Odds

It’s back to the grind of the PGA Tour season after a break that saw the Americans win yet another Presidents Cup. Only one player from that competition, International Team member MacKenzie Hughes, is scheduled to peg it up this week at the Sanderson Farms Championship, the second of eight FedExCup Fall tournaments. With a distinct lack of star power the title is up for grabs according to oddsmakers. Nick Dunlap opened as the betting favorite with Keith Mitchell, Hughes, Maverick McNealy and Seamus Power all tightly congested at the top of the odds board. With three wins on the Korn Ferry Tour this summer, Matt McCarty tops the points list and is skipping the KFT Championship to make his Tour debut. Defending champ Luke List is looking to become the first repeat champion in five decades. Visit BookMaker.eu for a complete updated list of betting odds when you’re ready to make a wager.

Odds Analysis

Nick Dunlap +2052

There are some betting benefits in tournaments like this. One being that favorites have longer odds than what we’d normally see. Dunlap enters on a bit of a roll after competing in his first FedExCup playoff with a T5 at the St. Jude Championship and T31 at the BMW Championship. He also has a pair of wins on his resume from the regular season claiming the American Express and the Barracuda Championship in July putting him among the top players in the field.

Mackenzie Hughes +2853

The only Presidents Cup participant making the trek and the top ranked Canadian player, Hughes enters with little to no rust in his game. He had a hot spurt in the middle of the season with three top 10s in six Tour starts and closed with a flourish earning a share of 16th at The Open. He placed among the top 5 in the first fall event and won in Jackson two years ago.

Matt Kuchar +5056

Getting a good price on the favorites is a plus but we also have a wide-open field that allows us to venture further down the odds board. The veteran Kuchar debuts in this event but with over 550 Tour starts he won’t be surprised by anything. His accurate tee shots should play well on the course allowing him to keep pace and confidence from a T13-T12-T3 run could put him in the mix.

Matt McCarty +4656

The first rule of sports wagering is never bet with your heart. I’m forgoing that in backing McCarty since he’s familiar to this writer from his playing days at Santa Clara University. Oh, and he wields a wicked set of sticks, too. It’s hard to win any golf tournament so claiming three titles in span of six stars is impressive, even if it was on the Korn Ferry Tour. McCarty topped the points list and was solid at the Price Cutter Charity Championship in July going 67 or lower in all four rounds for a 3-swing victory.

Henrik Norlander +7022

I mentioned going down the odds board and this is one of those times. There isn’t much other than his recent form in this tournament to suggest Norlander can win. He has two KFT titles but his last come over five years ago. He teases with a glimpse of his game like when he had a run of three top 12s worldwide in a five start span. His success in Jackson can’t be overlooked, though. He was part of a five-man playoff last year and also has a pair of T4s and a T24 in his last four starts. At his price Norlander is worth the risk.

Course: Country Club of Jackson – 7,461 yards, Par 72

Jackson, Mississippi’s Country Club course plays host for the 11th consecutive year. The course has a classical design featuring tree-lined fairways that are sometimes difficult to find. However, they are not penal by nature with the field averaging a high number of greens in regulation. There are the typical hazards with two-thirds of the greens guarded by bunkers and water a factor on nearly half the holes. Overall, the layout is scoreable as we’ve seen over the years with each of the past eight titlists scoring 17-under or better, and that number is the worst to win this event. In 2021 Sam Burns established a tournament course record at 22-under with a 1-shot victory over two players. List won a five-man playoff last year, the second straight time extra holes were needed to crown a champion and the third in the last five years.
