The PGA Tour wraps up its two-week stay in Las Vegas with the fifth playing of The CJ CUP. The first three editions of the tournament took place on Jeju Island in South Korea with COVID forcing a relocation to the Nevada desert ahead of last year’s event. Jason Kokrak emerged victorious at Shadow Creek with this week’s tournament moving a short distance to the exclusive Summit Club. And once again we have a limited no-cut field of 78 golfers. Dustin Johnson has emerged as the betting favorite in the outright market, but a stacked field gives us plenty of betting options in head-to-head competition. You can find current matchup odds at BookMaker.eu when you’re ready to place a wager.

Need to Know
The tournament plays a third different venue is as many years with the 7,431-yard, par-72 Summit Golf Club hosting this week. And it’s the first Tour event played on the layout that was opened in 2017 so there’s nothing in terms of course form to go on. It is similar to last year’s host Shadow Creek in exclusivity and beauty. There are several water hazards in play and around 62 bunkers dot the layout adding some defense. Altitude will again play a role evening the playing field and there is no cut guaranteeing everyone at least four rounds, so don’t worry if the golfer you’re backing falls behind. There are a number of holes where scores can be made up and the course offers a good mixture of length so players will have to access every club in the bag.
The CJ CUP at Summit Matchup Picks
Tony Finau +107 vs. Sam Burns
I’m backing Finau in this matchup for a number of reasons with the price being one of them. Catching him at plus odds feels like a bonus, but his game has been in a good spot and Finau is relieved to finally have a victory after so many close calls. His win at Liberty National validated his presence among the field’s elite and you can’t overlook his tee-to-green play and his distance off the tee. That should create scoring opportunities putting him out front.
Collin Morikawa +110 vs. Justin Thomas
When it comes to wagering on sporting events you have to look at anything that gives you an edge. With Morikawa being a local and a member of the Summit Club, that qualifies. He probably knows the course better than anyone in the field and, while it guarantees nothing, it is an edge. And take into account he once shot a 62 at this joint and I have a feeling Morikawa is in a good spot. Another plus odds wager won’t hurt the bankroll either.
Jordan Spieth +110 vs. Viktor Hovland
Spieth has cooled off after a scorching hot summer brought him back into the crosshairs of players to watch. Before enduring a lengthy slump Spieth could be seen at the top of many odds boards and was a threat to win just about every week. Getting back into that position sets him up nicely for another strong season and I expect him to be dialed in. He has a tough matchup opponent, but one he beat at the Ryder Cup. And at plus odds I’ll take Spieth no questions asked.
Louis Oosthuizen -110 vs. Scottie Scheffler
My only negative odds pick and it isn’t a shabby one. Oosthuizen continued his solid play from last season by scoring four sub-70 rounds in the Shriners last week for a share of 14th. What I like about him is that he doesn’t get too high or too low and approaches each tournament and round the same way. That’s allowed him to stay calm after his near misses last season and should serve him well moving forward.
Shane Lowry +107 vs. Tyrrell Hatton
I’ll go with a pair of European Tour stars in this matchup with each coming off a strong showing at the Alfred Dunhill a few weeks ago. But once again the value of a plus odds pick has me leaning toward Lowry. He finished T4 in the Dunhill, which was a few shots behind Hatton, but Lowry’s performance in the Ryder Cup was impressive in the European’s loss. And he’s been a bit more consistent overall.
