THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson PGA Matchup Odds

The PGA Tour is headed back to the Lone Star state with several natives aiming to become the first Texan since 2007 to win THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson. Most notable on the list is Jordan Spieth, who hit the board as the betting favorite in the outright market. It’s been a struggle for Spieth recently with three MCs in his last five starts, but he’s had success in his home state. Will Zalatoris is another Texan high on the odds board. Jason Day returns to defend his title from a year ago, which ended a string of three straight victories for Korean players. K.H. Lee navigated TPC Craig Ranch to a tournament scoring record in 2021 and was one-stroke better claiming another title in 2022. To date those are the only two PGA Tour wins for Lee. Odds suggest a wide-open field only making matchups more exciting. Check out the latest matchup odds at BookMaker.eu when you’re ready to place a wager.

Need to Know

There was a minor change to the layout at TPC Craig Ranch ahead of last year’s edition. The 12th hole was turned into a more difficult par 4 reducing total par to 71 while also adjusting the yardage. There wasn’t much in terms of difficulty that changed, though. Jason Day recorded the third lowest winning score in tournament history at 23-under, one of seven players to finish -20 or better. While long at just over 7,400 yards, the course is scoreable as past results indicate. Lee won the first playing at Craig Ranch in 2021 at 25-under and bettered that by one swing a year later. Those are the two lowest to par scores in the tournament’s history that dates back to 1944. Weather is expected to be an obstacle this week with wind and possibly storms challenging the full field of players.

THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson Matchup Picks

Seamus Power +108 vs. Mark Hubbard

Matchups can be a tossup in such a tight field with value picks lurking everywhere. One player that caught my eye is Power, who has been steady if not spectacular this season. The Irishman cashed in nine of 11 starts most recently finishing T12 at the RBC Heritage. In five of his completed starts he placed among the top half so there is value in his price. Power has also been solid in this tournament finishing among the top 20 in each of his last three starts.

Maverick McNealy +115 vs. Adam Schenk

The former Stanford star has been competing on Tour for several years still in search of that maiden victory. Not that he’s getting it this week, but if there’s a chance doing so in a field like this makes a lot of sense. There have been spurts of excellence with a T6 in Phoenix and a top 10 at THE PLAYERS a few starts ago. He has the goods to score low at TPC Craig Ranch carding a 68 or lower in half his rounds on the layout.

K. H. Lee +108 vs. Patrick Rodgers

There’s something about Craig Ranch that brings out the best in Lee. As mentioned he holds the two lowest winning scores in the event’s history with both coming on this track. In his quest for a three-peat last year, Lee finished 11-under falling well off the pace in a shootout. I found it odd that his odds were long in the outright and this matchup since he enters with three finishes among the top 11 in his last seven starts.

Adam Scott +108 vs. Alex Noren -129

With his price in this matchup I find Scott to be another intriguing pick with value. He won this tournament in 2008, though at a different location. And he’s continued his strong play in this event at Craig Ranch finishing at T8 last year when he opened and closed with a blistering 63. In addition he has five top 25s in seven starts this season.

Tom Hoge -120 vs. Keith Mitchell +100

Hoge has done a fine job taming the Craig Ranch layout scoring below 70 in nine of his 10 rounds on the course. Two years ago he finished T17 with every round at 68 or lower. And he enters having put together a fine season so far with only one MC in an individual event and a pair of top 10s among his seven top 25s.
