The FedExCup Playoffs get underway this week with the PGA Tour headed to Jersey for The Northern Trust. The top 125 players in the standings are eligible and we have a full field ready to peg it up at Liberty National Golf Club. This is the only playoff tournament with a cut, so things will get intense with the top-70 moving on to next week’s BMW Championship. Dustin Johnson attempts to defend his Northern Trust and FedExCup title and is positioned behind favorite Jon Rahm on the odds board. DJ’s win came at TPC Boston with Patrick Reed emerging victorious the last time The Northern Trust was played in Jersey in 2019. BookMaker.eu has a complete updated list of betting odds for The Northern Trust when you’re ready to make a wager.

Odds Analysis
Abraham Ancer +2800
Entering the week few players are more amped than Ancer, who’s coming off his maiden Tour win at the WGC FedEx St. Jude a few weeks back. He had been close on a few occasions before finally breaking through. One of those times was back in 2019 when Ancer finished one shot behind Reed at this event on this course. Ancer topped the field in strokes gained: tee to green back in 2019 and is playing at a high level coming in. He has four top-5s among his seven top-10s in his last nine starts.
Daniel Berger +3000
Berger is another hot player entering the week and there’s more at stake for him. Currently 10th in the Ryder Cup standings, Berger can continue his ascent up that list with another strong showing. Since a MC at The Masters, Berger is 8 for 8 with half of those finishes landing him in the top-7. His top-5 at TPC Southwind followed a top-10 in The Open. Berger was also T7 at the U.S. Open with a podium finish at the Byron Nelson his best showing during this run. There is some value considering how he’s playing.
Dustin Johnson +1600
Which DJ are we going to get this week, the one that finished among the top-10 in The Open and the WGC St. Jude or the one with a MC in between those starts? I’m banking on the former considering Johnson can carve up any golf course and after a brief display of sub-par golf he’s back on track. While his Northern Trust victory last year was at a different venue, Johnson showed why he’s one of the best with a 30-under, 11-shot victory. That’s just too impressive to overlook.
Shane Lowry +6600
Consistent might be the best way to describe Lowry, who is 17 of 19 this season with nine top-25s. There are also other factors that would benefit from a good finish. First, Lowry is contending for a spot on the European Ryder Cup team and he also isn’t guaranteed a trip to next week’s BMW. At No. 66 in the FedExCup standings there’s a chance he can slip down the list and miss out on the second leg of the playoff. So instead, why not go for it. There are value plays down the odds board and Lowry looks like a good one to me.
Patrick Reed +4000
Reed has a strong history in the few events played at Liberty National perhaps giving him an edge over the competition. There was his victory two years ago and he also went 3-1-1 at the 2017 Presidents Cup, so there’s a definite comfort level on this track. And playing here could be what he needs to break a run that hasn’t seen him finish better than T19 in seven starts.
Course: Liberty National Golf Club – 7,410 yards, Par 71
Liberty National has come a long way in a short time. Built on an old landfill, among other things, in 2006, the course is hosting The Northern Trust for the fourth time since 2009. The field wasn’t very receptive to the layout when the event was known as the Barclay’s in that first year, so the course underwent a massive renovation in 2010. Things went smoothly in 2013 and Liberty National will likely be a regular PGA Tour stop in the near future. This is a difficult track with water frequently coming into play, upwards of 90 bunkers strategically placed, and undulating fast greens. The views can be distracting, too, with the downtown New York skyline and the Statue of Liberty visible from nearly everywhere. Reed carded a 16-under to win this tournament for a second time in 2019 at Liberty National.
