Travelers Championship Golf Odds

After an exhausting week at the season’s third major, the PGA Tour heads across the country with some of the game’s biggest stars in tow for the Travelers Championship. The top seven players in the OWGR are scheduled to peg it up at TPC River Highlands in Connecticut with No. 1 Scottie Scheffler leading the way on the odds board as the outright favorite. Many golfers would enjoy taking a week off following a major, but designated events have attracted strong fields and this tournament is no different. FedExCup leader Jon Rahm and defending champion Xander Schauffele are among the top five favorites while last week’s U.S. Open winner Wyndham Clark sits further down the odds board. Odds Analysis

Patrick Cantlay +1115

I really like Scheffler among the favorites but his price is keeping me away. So, instead I’ll jump a little lower on the board with Cantlay standing out. As an amateur on this track a few years ago Cantlay twirled an impressive 60 and he’s been steady here across his last five visits placing among the top 15 each time with a nifty scoring average of 67.55. And he’s enjoying a fine season with only one MC in 15 starts and that first win appears to be right around the corner.

Harris English +6800

I was surprised to see English priced as high as he is which is why I jumped on him in the outright. A winner here in 2021, he’s experienced more downs than ups since then but it appears as though he’s gotten the swing back. It’s been a long haul since hip surgery last year but the consistency has returned with six top 15s over the last four months, including a T8 last week in Los Angeles.

Rickie Fowler +4500

Taking a share of the lead into Sunday at the U.S. Open, Fowler struggled dropping down the leaderboard. While the overall game has been solid it’s just a minor hiccup here and there that’s prevented him from ending the title drought. What’s different this season is that Fowler has responded with strong outings instead of going into the tank. That attitude has me believing Fowler can finally get that long awaited win sooner rather than later.

Max Homa +6450

One of about 70 players who competed at LACC last week, Homa got a jump on many of them with his MC so he should at least be well rested and over the jet lag. Prior to his MC Homa collected a pair of top 10s in three previous events and has enjoyed a fantastic season overall with two wins. His story here is grim with four MCs in as many starts, but his last was in 2021 before he rose in status among his peers. Not only does Max have something to prove after last week’s debacle, he’d also like to exorcise the demons at TPC River Highlands.

Tom Kim +5000

Still just a newbie on Tour we saw Kim show off his ball-striking technique last week at LACC leading to a T8. River Highlands is a much tidier and shorter course playing to Kim’s skill set and we’ve seen him navigate courses expertly on his first try, which this will be for him. Taking the Tour by storm earlier in the season, Kim slowed a bit. However, his showing last week is a sign that he could be back and at this price you almost have to back him.

Course: TPC River Highlands – 6,852 yards, Par 70

Host of this event since 1984, TPC River Highlands is one of the shorter courses on Tour at less than 6,900 yards. Despite that some big hitters have enjoyed success on the layout. Bubba Watson won three times including twice in a four-year span and long strikers like Hunter Mahan and Stewart Cink also emerged victorious. The length levels the playing field and puts an emphasis on accuracy bringing the entire bag into play. The marquee holes are Nos. 15-17 that play around a large body of water to create a thrilling ending. We’ve witnessed several large comeback victories on this track over the years. Watson erased a six-shot deficit in 2018 with a closing 63. River Highlands is also the site of the Tour’s only 58, scored by Jim Furyk in 2016.
