Travelers Championship PGA Odds

A Signature Event following the season’s third major keeps the PGA Tour’s best players on the course as they head to Connecticut for the Travelers Championship. Scottie Scheffler shot over par in every round at the U.S. Open to finish with a share of 41st yet he’s still the prohibitive favorite at TPC River Highlands. With five wins among his 12 top 10 finishes this season I guess you’re allowed to have an off-week. Keegan Bradley defends the title he won by three swings last year looking to become the first repeat winner in over two decades. After a disastrous finish at Pinehurst Rory McIlroy withdrew earlier in the week, still the field includes seven of the top 10 players in the world. Odds Analysis

Keegan Bradley +4500

We haven’t had a repeat winner here since 2002 and Bradley doesn’t exactly standout in a loaded field. But he is the defending champ and an area native giving him an extra shot of adrenalin. You’d think trying to win in what is essentially a home game adds a little pressure to the week, but Bradley got that last year allowing him to play free and easy. Of course that doesn’t mean squat, but given the circumstances it’s as good a reason as any to back him for the outright. And his 257 total last year was a tournament record.

Patrick Cantlay +1800

With the WD of McIlroy earlier in the week the field opened up with Cantlay a likely candidate to take advantage. He’s a regular at this tournament placing among the top 15 in each of his last six visits with a best of T4 last year. Over that span he boasts a ridiculous 67.17 scoring average. Cantlay also got things ironed out just in time for a visit to his happy place earning a podium at the U.S. Open bolstered by an opening 65 at Pinehurst. Cantlay has been so good here that it makes sense to back him in alternate markets.

Brian Harman +3500

Harman has won a lot of money at this tournament without actually winning it, so the next logical step is standing in the winner’s circle on Sunday. He was runner-up last year and has placed among the top 8 in each of the last three editions giving him six such finishes overall. He’s been consistent since the Masters with six consecutive paydays though only a best of T12 at the RBC Heritage. Visiting a joint that has yielded him positive results is encouraging.

Russell Henley +3000

Another golfer looking to break out is Henley, who has also enjoyed the low-scoring Highlands Ranch layout. Though there is no cut this year there was in previous events with Henley playing the weekend in 5 of 6 previous starts and placing among the top 20 four times. He enters off a T7 at the U.S. Open, his third top 10 and fifth top 20 in his last seven starts.

Hideki Matsuyama +2500

With injury issues apparently behind him we’ve been able to see the real Matsuyama. Since winning the Genesis Invitational in February, Matsuyama has four additional top 10s including a T8 at the Memorial and solo sixth at the U.S. Open in his last two starts. He debuted at the Travelers last year carding a 16-under 264 playing the final three holes at 15-under matching winner Keegan Bradley.

Course: TPC River Highlands – 6,835 yards, Par 70

Host of this event since 1984, TPC River Highlands is one of the shorter courses on Tour stretching to 6,835 yards. Despite that some big hitters have enjoyed success on the layout. Bubba Watson won three times including twice in a four-year span and long strikers like Hunter Mahan and Stewart Cink also emerged victorious. The length, or lack of, levels the playing field and puts an emphasis on accuracy bringing the entire bag into play. The marquee holes are Nos. 15-17 that play around a large 4-acre body of water to create a thrilling ending. Bradley set a tournament scoring record at 23-under 257 last year. We’ve also witnessed several large comeback victories on this track over the years. Watson erased a six-shot deficit in 2018 with a closing 63. River Highlands is also the site of the Tour’s only 58, scored by Jim Furyk in 2016.
