Travelers Championship Matchup Odds and Picks

World No. 1 Justin Thomas and U.S. Open champion Brooks Koepka headline the field for the Travelers Championship, which begins on Thursday. Thomas is the betting favorite at odds of +1050, while seven other players are listed with odds of less than +2200. The field is much stronger than expected, with a number of top players in the field, despite the tournament taking place the week following the U.S. Open. We went 3-2 with the matchups at the U.S. Open. Let’s look at the odds and picks for this week’s Travelers Championship.

Travelers Championship Matchup Picks

Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. TPC River Highlands is a par 70 that plays to 6,841 yards. It is a course where distance is not a huge factor, so approaches are everything. Greens in regulation is a key stat to consider, because the rough around the greens is difficult.

Justin Thomas -125 vs. Brooks Koepka

I like Thomas in this matchup, as he is always in contention, while Koepka almost has to have a letdown after winning the U.S. Open last week. Koepka did finish in a tie for 9th two years ago in this event but Thomas is the better player and this is all about Koepka suffering a letdown.

Justin Thomas -120 vs. Jordan Spieth

This has been one of my favorite matchups this year because Thomas is simply the better player right now than Spieth. I just haven’t seen the confidence from Spieth that he had a year ago and he has yet to solve his putting problems. I will take Thomas in this matchup.

Webb Simpson -115 vs. Bryson DeChambeau

I think Simpson could be a nice longshot to win this week overall and I like him in this matchup. He has three top 15 finishes in this event and has made the cut all eight times he has played. I am still not sold on DeChambeau despite the fact he has five top five finishes this season. I will take Simpson in this matchup.

Xander Schauffele -115 vs. Charley Hoffman

One of my favorite players on a weekly basis is Schauffele and I like him in this matchup. He tied for 6th at the U.S. Open. Hoffman simply isn’t playing as well as he did a year ago when I liked him in a lot of matchups. He showed up for one round at the U.S. Open and then faded. He has played well in this event, but I think Schauffele is the better player. I will take Schauffele in this matchup.

Daniel Berger -120 vs. Ryan Moore

Berger has played well at TPC River Highlands with a tie for fifth and a tie for 2nd and he played well last week at the U.S. Open. Moore is a two-time runner-up in this event, but Berger is playing better right now. I will lay the price and take Berger.

Brandt Snedeker -105 vs. Russell Knox

We know that TPC River Highlands doesn’t demand distance, so that immediately gives a player like Snedeker a better chance. If his putter is hot he could have a chance to contend this week. I will take him in this matchup against Knox.
