Sergio Garcia is the only player ranked in the top 10 in the World Golf Rankings competing in this week’s Valero Texas Open. Garcia is listed as the favorite to win this week’s event, with Charley Hoffman the second betting choice. We are coming off a 1-2 week with last week’s picks at the RBC Heritage after Matt Kuchar choked away a big lead as a 2-1 underdog. Let’s look at the odds and picks for this week’s Valero Texas Open.

RBC Heritage Matchup Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. Last year it was all about greens-in-regulation in this event, as 7 of the top 12 finishers ranked in the Top 10 in GIR for the week. TPC San Antonio is a long course, so distance off the tee is also a key stat to consider and players who score well on Par 5’s usually do well on this course.
Charley Hoffman -110 vs. Matt Kuchar
Hoffman has been excellent at this event, as he is the all-time earnings leader. He won this event in 2016 and he has four other top 15 finishes. Kuchar is rarely in contention to win a tournament and he proved again last week that he can’t be trusted. I will take Hoffman in this matchup.
Billy Horschel +130 vs. Adam Scott
I think the wrong player is favored in this matchup. Horschel is coming off a tie for 5th last week and he has been very good at TPC San Antonio with top five finishes in 2013, 2015 and 2016. Scott just isn’t the same player of a few years ago, as when he was forced to change putters it negatively affected his game. I will take Horshel at plus money in this matchup.
Luke List -125 vs. Kevin Chappell
List has finished in the top 20 in five of his last nine starts. He is sixth on the PGA Tour this season in strokes gained: tee-to-green and he is tied for 19th in par-5 scoring. I know Chappell is the defending champion, but List is the better play this year. I will take List in this matchup.
Pat Perez -115 vs. Brandt Snedeker
Perez has been really good at TPC San Antonio with four finishes inside the top 22. He has a scoring average of 71.25 on this course. He will have the edge in distance in this matchup against Snedeker who rarely contends for victories. I will take Perez in this matchup.
Brendan Steele -115 vs. Adam Scott
I will take Steele in this matchup against Scott. Steele won this event in 2011. He ranks highly in the key stats of the week, as he is 8th in GIR and he is tied for 19th in par-5 scoring.
