The PGA Tour’s stay in Florida comes to an end with this week’s playing of the Valspar Championship. Nestled between two higher-profile events the field has diminished a bit, but there remain several big names looking to take home the hardware. For the second straight year Justin Thomas emerged as the betting favorite in the outright market slightly ahead of Jordan Spieth. They are two of the OWGR’s top-20 along with Matt Fitzpatrick and Sam Burns, pegging it up. There have been just two winners at this event since 2018 with third favorite Burns going for a rare three-peat. Burns has only four PGA Tour wins on his resume with half of them coming at Innisbrook Resort. And as always the favorites are featured in a number of tournament matchups with odds for those head-to-head battles available at BookMaker.eu when you’re ready to make a wager.

Need to Know
The 7,340-yard, par-71 Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort plays host this week. It’s not your typical par 71 layout with four par-5s and five par-3s, and it’s often referred to as one of the most difficult on Tour while being a more popular stop as well. There are just a few holes that cause problems, those being the 13th and 16th. The closing stretch starting at No. 16 is known as the Snake Pit and will pose a challenge. Course management is important and par is a good score, so don’t look for a lot of drivers on the tee box. Burns won his first PGA Tour title here in 2021 and followed last year with an identical 17-under 267, the lowest winning score since Vijay Singh set a tournament record at 18-under in 2004.
Valspar Championship Matchup Picks
Davis Riley +100 vs. Justin Suh
I feel like Riley has some unfinished business to take care of this week. It doesn’t mean he’ll get it done, but when you come so close to your first PGA Tour win and lose in a playoff the sting lingers. Riley did just about everything but win last year holding the 54-hole lead and recovering from a triple-bogey to force extra holes, but still succumbed in the end. He’s still searching for the elusive win with signs that a breakthrough is imminent like his T8 at the API a few weeks back.
Sam Burns -120 vs. Keegan Bradley
There’s something about Burns and the Copperhead Course that you just can’t explain. It’s hard to win the same event twice let alone three consecutive times, but there’s no denying Burns just feels it here. His victory last year was one of three for the season with a total of eight top-10s. He finished among the top-11 three times in nine starts this season and was a respectable T35 last week after MCs in his previous two outings.
Jordan Spieth +115 vs. Justin Thomas
It’s always fun to place a wager in a head to head with the top two favorites. Both players have been good this season but they haven’t been their best. And with Spieth having better outcomes recently along with a win in this tournament a few years ago, I’ll back the underdog at plus-odds in what will be a lucrative payout. Over his last four starts Spieth seems to be heating up going T6-T4-T19.
Gary Woodland -120 vs. J.T. Poston
I already have one pick at this price and rarely do I go much higher. Woodland appears to be a good fit on this course and the field helps him out considerably. He hasn’t won since claiming the U.S. Open title in 2019, but he’s been a solid player and a good matchup bet. He has eight payouts in 11 starts this season and he won on this course back in 2011 earning his first PGA Tour victory.
Adam Hadwin -105 vs. Tommy Fleetwood
Hadwin was consistently good last week carding four sub-par rounds to finish T13 at THE PLAYERS, his fourth top-20 in his last seven starts. He’s also had success at this layout with a game suited for the intricacies of Innisbrook. He finished among the top-12 in three of his last five starts here with a win in 2017 and a T7 last year making him a good pick in this matchup.
