The PGA Tour’s stay in Florida comes to an end with this week’s playing of the Valspar Championship. Situated after a high-profile event the field has diminished a bit, but there remain several big names looking to take home the hardware. Following his runner-up showing at TPC Sawgrass, Xander Schauffele opened as the betting favorite in the outright market with two-time winner Sam Burns close behind. Several other former winners are set to peg it up with defending champ Taylor Moore further down the odds board. Adam Hadwin (2017) and Jordan Spieth (2015) have also recently prevailed on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort. As always the favorites are featured in a number of tournament matchups with odds for those head-to-head battles available at BookMaker.eu when you’re ready to make a wager.

Need to Know
The 7,340-yard, par-71 Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort plays host this week. It’s not your typical par 71 layout with four par-5s and five par-3s, and it’s often referred to as one of the most difficult on Tour while being a more popular stop as well. There are just a few holes that cause problems, those being the 13th and 16th. The closing stretch starting at No. 16 is known as the Snake Pit and will pose a challenge. Course management is important and par is a good score, so don’t look for a lot of drivers on the tee box. Moore earned his first Tour victory last year besting Adam Schenk by 1-shot. Over the previous 14 editions 12 were decided in a playoff or by a single shot, so there’s a good chance we’ll be holding on to the very end.
Valspar Championship Matchup Picks
Brian Harman -115 vs. Sungjae Im
Harman got on my radar after winning The Open last year and even then he didn’t register as a strong matchup pick. That is until last week when he overcame an opening 72 to finish in a tie for second one shot back of the lead. That was his fourth top 10 of the season and second top 5 while playing the weekend in all seven starts. He hasn’t had a lot of success at Innisbrook but there is a T5 on his resume and he’s playing exceptionally well.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout -105 vs. Aaron Rai
Consistency is always something to look at when picking matchup winners. And I think it’s safe to say Bezuidenhout has been just that. He played the weekend in six of eight starts and wasn’t far off in his MCs, so I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt. He’s also finished among the top 30 four times with a season-best T13 at TPC Sawgrass. His accuracy will play a big role this week on a course that demands it.
Adam Schenk -105 vs. Lucas Glover
He’s never won on Tour but Schenk came as close as you could last year finishing one-shot behind Moore. I guess you could get closer by losing in a playoff, which Schenk also did last season at the Schwab. Anyway, this one was probably more frustrating though since he led after the second and third rounds. And he comes in following one his better performances this season with a T19 at THE PLAYERS, one of four top 30s.
Victor Perez -110 vs. Ben Griffin
His ball-striking and approach game have been solid this season leaving Perez as a solid pick in this matchup. Copperhead rewards such brilliance and Perez has been among the best in several metrics. He also has some decent outings to his name recently including a T3 at the Puerto Rico Open and a T16 at the Cognizant Classic earlier this month with all eight rounds at or below 70.
Tony Finau +110 vs. Jordan Spieth
I was looking for a plus-odds player in a matchup and came across Finau. For those who read my golf articles you’re probably wondering why I backed Spieth in the outright by faded him in this matchup. That’s a good question and has to do with Spieth’s inconsistent play since being DQd at The Genesis. He could rise from the ashes and have a big tournament, which is why the outright pick. Or Spieth could continue to stumble with poor putting a major factor. Finau has been the more consistent player recording three top 20s in his last five starts.
