Wells Fargo Championship Matchup Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. Distance is very important this week, as Quail Hollow is 7,554 yards. This course is extremely difficult and rarely does a longshot win this event, as it is usually a marquee player getting the win. Players who hit the ball a long way, scramble well and putt will be players you want to bet on this week.
Jason Day -115 vs. Patrick Reed
I know that Reed played pretty well last week coming off his Masters win, but I still think he has to have some sort of a letdown. Day has the length to do well at Quail Hollow and he is also a very good scrambler. I will lay the small price and go with Day in this matchup.
Tommy Fleetwood -125 vs. Louis Oosthuizen
This price seems a little low to me considering Fleetwood is definitely the better player at this point in their careers. Fleetwood will be playing in this event for the first time, but that shouldn’t be an issue, as he has done well in debuts this season. I will lay the small price and take Fleetwood in this matchup.
Chesson Hadley -115 vs. Ryan Moore
Hadley has eight top 20 finishes this season and he has finished in the Top 20 in his last two trips to Quail Hollow. Moore has played pretty well in his career at Quail Hollow, but I just think Hadley is the better player and we get him at a short price in this matchup.
Xander Schauffele -115 vs. Charles Howell III
Anytime that I can get Schauffele at a short price against a player who is not one of the world’s best I am taking him. Schaueffele has surprising length and he has proven in this past he can beat the world’s best. I like him in this matchup against Howell at the short price.
Brian Harman -120 vs. Emiliano Grillo
Harman won at Eagle Point last year and he has made the cut in four of five tries in this event at Quail Hollow. He almost always seems to be in contention for a top 10 finish. I will lay the small price in this matchup and take him against Grillo.
