Odds Analysis

Dustin Johnson +700

I expected a bounce back from DJ last week in Canada and he delivered with a win. It would not surprise me at all if he won again this week. He won this event in 2016 and he is first on the PGA Tour in Shots Gained: tee-to-green and he is sixth in bogey avoidance.

Rory McIlroy +900

Rory is definitely capable of winning this event, as he has five top 10 finishes at Firestone including a win in 2014. The problem I have with taking him is that he doesn’t win enough to justify these types of odds.

Tiger Woods +1100

Tiger is definitely playing better, but keep in mind that despite all of the media slobbering, Tiger is simply just another player. I know he has won eight times at Firestone, but he is not the same player he once was. He will probably win another tournament, but he shouldn’t be listed as one of the favorites against a field this strong.

Justin Rose +1200

Rose has five straight top 10 finishes. He has five top five finishes at this event, but last year he tied for 63rd. Rose ranks highly in SGTTG and bogey avoidance.

Jordan Spieth +1600

Spieth has played this event well with a tie for 13th or better in three of his four starts. He is playing better, but I am still not sold he has completely solved his putting problems. I have gone against Spieth almost all season and I still am not on board him being back.

Rickie Fowler +1800

Rickie has four straight top 10 finishes at Firestone. He is playing well with a tie for 12th in three of his last five starts and he ranks highly in our key categories this week.

Tommy Fleetwood +2400

Fleetwood tied for 28th last season in this event. He ranks 13th in SGTTG and he finished tied for 6th last week in Canada.

Patrick Cantlay +5000

One of my two longshots this week is Cantlay who ranks ninth on the PGA Tour in Shots Gained: tee-to-green.

Kevin Chappell +7000

My other longshots is Chappell who finished tied for 3rd in this event two years ago and tied for 13th last year. He is coming off a tie for 6th at the Open.
Course: Firestone Country Club is a par 70 that measures 7,400 yards. This will be the last time the course will host the WGC Bridgestone Invitational. The course is long for a par 70. It is a course that really puts a focus on hitting fairways and greens, so strokes gained: tee-to-green and bogey avoidance are key statistics to consider this week.
