Odds Analysis
Justin Rose & Henrik Stenson +700
The favorite to win this event is the team of Rose and Stenson. They have competed on three Ryder Cup teams together. They missed the cut last year in this event so they may be a bit overvalued. Both players have taken two weeks off after the Masters. I think there is better value elsewhere this week.
Patrick Cantlay & Patrick Reed +1000
I am not backing this team simply because I don’t know how Reed will respond after winning the Masters. Cantlay had some early moments this season but his recent play hasn’t been that strong. I won’t be backing this team.
Bud Cauley & Justin Thomas +1200
There could be some value on this team at odds of +1200. Thomas is capable of blitzing any field and Cauley is a good player. This team finished tied for 5th in this event a year ago and I expect them to contend for the win this week.
Scott Brown & Kevin Kisner +4000
I am really surprised that the number on Brown and Kisner is so high. They nearly won this event a year ago, falling in a playoff to Jonas Blixt and Cameron Smith. Brown isn’t playing at a high level, but he usually is pretty accurate off the tee and Kisner is a very good putter. I will take a shot with this team at big odds.
Course: TPC Louisiana is a par 72 that measures 7,425 yards. It is a relatively easy course on the PGA Tour schedule even though there are a number of water hazards on the course. More than 100 bunkers were added to the course a while back in an attempt to make the course play harder. The format for this event has best-ball play on Thursday and Saturday and alternate-shot play on Friday and Sunday.
