Chicago struggled early in the season but they are now playing well having won three straight games, while the Kraken have dropped four straight contests. Chicago comes into this game at 4-9-2, while Seattle is 4-10-1. This will be the first-ever meeting between the Blackhawks and Kraken. Let’s look at the matchup between the Blackhawks and Kraken and NHL picks.
The Chicago Blackhawks visit the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington. This game will take place on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at 10 p.m. ET, with television coverage on TNT.
Odds Analysis
The Kraken have not been favored that often this season but they will probably be listed as a small home favorite in this contest. Chicago has yet to win a game on the road this season, going 0-5-1, while Seattle is 3-4 at home.
Chicago Blackhawks
The Blackhawks are 4-9-2 on the season and as mentioned earlier, they are 0-5-1 on the road. They have not played since Friday night when they pulled out a 2-1 win against Arizona. Chicago is averaging just 2.1 goals per game which is 30th in the league. They are at 20% on the power play and 88.9% on the penalty kill. Chicago is giving up 3.6 goals per game which is 30th in the league.
Patrick Kane leads the team in points with 15, while goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury leads the team with three wins.
Seattle Kraken
The Kraken are 4-10-1 on the season, and as mentioned earlier they are 3-4 at home. They have not played since Saturday night when they were beaten 4-2 by Minnesota. Seattle was thought to have a poor offense and a good defense coming into the season. The poor offense has been true, as they are averaging just 2.9 goals per game, but the defense has been awful, giving up 3.6 goals per game, last in the league. They are last on the power play at 9.3%, while they are 20th on the penalty kill at 80%.
Jordan Eberle leads the team with 12 points. Goaltender Philipp Grubauer leads the team with four wins and he has a 3.18 goals against average.
Chicago vs. Seattle NHL Pick
I thought before the season began that the optimism regarding Seattle was too high. I was not impressed with Seattle’s hiring of Ron Francis as the GM, as he has never done anything to show he can lead a franchise. I didn’t really like their expansion draft either as they ended up going with a lot of defensive players. It was thought that Seattle would be fine in goal and maybe they will, but so far Grubauer has not been able to stand on his head and keep the team afloat.
Chicago and Seattle are both coming into this game with a lot of time off. It is very unusual in the NHL to see a team with four days off but that is what Chicago had coming into this one and Seattle has had three days off. I think both teams could be a little rusty at the beginning and that may lead to some missed offensive chances. I know that neither team has played much defense but I like what Chicago has done lately and Fleury seems to have turned the corner. The Kraken are still struggling to score goals and I don’t see that changing in this one. I will go under the total in this game between the Blackhawks and Kraken.
