Gamblers and sports fans could not ask for more when it comes to drama, unpredictability, and high wire acts in the Stanley Cup playoffs this spring. The top four seeds and defending Stanley Cup champion were bounced in the opening round. And it hardly ends there. Meanwhile the Colorado Avalanche were not expected to make the post season but make it they did. And in the first round they killed off the top seed in the Western Conference, the Calgary Flames, in five games. Now the Avs and Sharks meet for a winner take all game seven. Odds Analysis
Home ice is always considered to be a major asset in the NHL playoffs and the home team has taken four of the first six games in this series. Gamblers are well aware of the SAP Center, AKA “The Shark Tank” being one of the toughest venues for away teams to win at. Colorado may get some live betting action from bargain hunters based on their strong goaltending and scoring depth.
Series Update
Colorado staved off elimination in game six with a breathtaking 4-3 overtime win to force a seventh game. The winner of this seventh game moves on to the Western Conference Final. The loser goes home as eliminated.
Key Players
Of great concern is the past two games for Colorado’s leading scorer Nathan MacKinnon. Big Mac has six goals with seven assists in the playoffs but has been shut out from the scoresheet in his last two games. The Sharks strategy has determined that if they lose, they will not lose due to MacKinnon. The Colorado center has grown quite frustrated with the harassment. Now he must prove he can overcome the obstacles put up by San Jose and deliver in the most pressure packed environment possible.
Gabriel Landeskog was the overtime hero for the Avs by scoring the overtime winner in game six. JT Compher lit the lamp twice in that sixth game for the Avalanche. Defenseman Tyson Barrie has shown well with one goal, seven assists, and a plus one in post season.
San Jose center Logan Couture has the hot hand with nine goals, five assists and a plus three. Fellow Sharks center Tomas Hertl has eight goals, four assists and a plus two. Defenseman Brent Burns has shown why he is one of the best with five goals, seven assists and a plus two.
Goaltending Report
Marin Jones has recovered from a terrible start in the opening round series against Vegas to come up clutch for San Jose. Jones has a playoff save percentage of .908 with a 2.78 goals against average. He has been at .926 or better for his save percentage in three of the last four games.
By contrast Colorado’s Philipp Grubauer has been more consistent and steadier between the pipes. Grubauer has a .928 save percentage with a 2.23 goals against average and one shutout.

Colorado has bene rendered helpless at the Shark Tank with only two wins in their last 20 visits. While a game seven always has a coin flip aspect to it the fact remains that San Jose has a definite home ice advantage.
