The Buffalo Sabres and Colorado Avalanche are both suffering from letdown seasons in which they have failed to live up to expectations. The Ottawa Senators are the worst and most dysfunctional franchise in the NHL and will be up against the Boston Bruins juggernaut. The Pittsburgh Penguins and Columbus Blue Jackets will be fighting for their playoff lives Saturday in one of the biggest games of the year. The slumping Vancouver Canucks will host a resurgent Vegas Golden Knights team in the final game of a huge Saturday of action. Let’s take a look at Saturday’s NHL best bets!
Buffalo Sabres vs. Colorado Avalanche, 3 p.m. ET
Carolina is on fire with eight wins in their last ten games to become the most surprising team to hold a current playoff spot in the entire league. A big part of the Hurricanes success is the back end where they rank sixth for goals against and best for shots permitted. Buffalo is a terrible 11-18-2-2 on the road and ranks a dismal 23rd for both goal scoring and goals against. The Sabres have lost eight of their last ten games. Colorado has won six of their last seven home games against Buffalo with five of the last six between these two teams at Denver going over the total. Overall the Avs have gotten the money in three of their last four games with the Sabres.
Ottawa Senators vs. Boston Bruins, 7 p.m. ET
The Senators are a hopeless 9-23-1-1 on the road and rank 30th in the NHL for goals against. The recent firing of head coach Guy Boucher has made no difference as Ottawa has lost eight of their last nine. Boston is an impressive 25-7-2-1 at home and ranks second in the league for goals against. The Bruins are one of the hottest teams in the NHL with nine wins in their last ten games. Boston has won three consecutive home games against Ottawa with all three of those games going over the total. Overall the Bruins have won seven in a row against the Senators.
Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Columbus Blue Jackets, 7 p.m. ET
The Blue Jackets are slumping with three losses in their last five games. A power play ranked 27th in the NHL has been a big problem for head coach John Tortorella’s team. Pittsburgh is getting back on track after an inconsistent February with three wins in their last four games. The Pens are still a dangerous offensive team that ranks fifth in the league for goal scoring. Pittsburgh has won their last three visits to Columbus with the last five games between these teams at Nationwide Arena going over the total. Overall the Penguins have utterly dominated their series with the Blue Jackets as shown with 11 wins in the last 12 games in this rivalry. Seven of the last nine in this series have gone over the total.
Vegas Golden Knights vs. Vancouver Canucks, 10 p.m. ET
Vancouver’s weak goal scoring has been a drag on their playoff hopes. The Canucks rank 26th in the NHL for goal scoring and 28th for the power play. Vancouver is in a terrible stretch with eight losses in their last ten games. Vegas has won four of their last five and is playing their best hockey of the season. The Golden Knights are still a good defensive team that ranks seventh for goals against. Vegas has had full control of the cashier’s cage in their series with Vancouver by way of five payouts in the last six meetings. Four of those six games have gone over the total. The Golden Knights are in good position for a second consecutive playoff run.
