UFC 223 takes place on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The card airs live on pay-per-view starting 10 p.m. ET, following the FS1 prelims. Interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson (23-3, 10 KOs, 8 SUBs) will meet Khabib Nurmagomedov (25-0, 8 KOs, 8 SUBs) in the main event. The first major pay-per-view card of 2018 is fast approaching. After a string of decent events this year, UFC 223 feels like one of those premier events that we only get a few times a year. And that means there’s been a ton of action in the sportsbooks.
With no events this week, it’s a great time to check the odds for UFC 223. The main event, Ferguson vs. Nurmagomedov and the co-main, Namajunas vs. Jedrzejczyk, has seen notable line movements that you need to be aware of. And just recently, more fight odds have been added to online sportsbooks.
Let’s take a look at the UFC odds at BookMaker.eu and break down all you the latest betting updates.
Main Event
Current Odds: Khabib Nurmagomedov -250 vs. Tony Ferguson +200
Opening Odds: Khabib Nurmagomedov -200 vs. Tony Ferguson +160
What This Means
Bettors are flocking to “The Eagle”, forcing oddsmakers to react to prompt more bets on Ferguson. A line shift of 50 points is pretty dramatic, though getting +200 on “El Cucuy” could definitely swing this in the other direction. But Khabib’s got all the hype right now, especially after ragdolling Edson Barboza in his last matchup.
If you’re betting on Ferguson, you might not get a better line, so we’d suggest pulling the trigger now to lock in your price. Nurmagomedov backers might want to wait and see if his line gets any cheaper - we really don’t expect it to get any more expensive than this.
Co-Main Event
Current Odds: Joanna Jedrzejczyk -165 vs. Rose Namajunas +135
Opening Odds: Joanna Jedrzejczyk -225 vs. Rose Namajunas +180
What This Means
Obviously, there are a lot of bettors who liked Namajunas’ odds at an another upset to even out the odds significantly. J-Check opened as more than a 2-1 favorite, but early action has driven her line up to -165. While the Polish powerhouse is still a solid favorite here, getting demolished by Namajunas is evidently still something that’s fresh on people’s minds.
The question here is whether that was a flash knockout. If you think it was, the price swing has done you a favor, as J-Check’s line is definitely playable as a straight play. Namajunas’ comeback isn’t as enticing as what it used to be, but you’re still getting more than 100% return on your investment with a winning bet.
New UFC 223 Odds Additions
Anthony Pettis -120 vs. Michael Chiesa +100
Felice Herrig +155 vs. Karolina Kowalkiewicz -175
Al Iaquinta -140 vs. Paul Felder +120
Early Reactions
At first glance, Michael Chiesa as an underdog against a flailing Pettis raises some eyebrows. I’d expect this to end as a pick’em. Chiesa’s wrestling style is basically kryptonite for Pettis’ striking-based game. We’d take Chiesa now while the payout is still one for one.
Kowalkiewicz’ price sounds about right against the surging Herrig, and it wouldn’t surprise us to see KK’s money line get more expensive. While Herrig’s turnaround has been nice, you won’t find many who actually believe that she’s a legit contender at 115 pounds.
Al Iaquinta is a slight favorite over Paul Felder, which is a testament to how underrated Felder is. Still, “Ragin’ Al” is a much better known quantity, and he can be a beast when it comes to boxing. Our advice would be to take the price on Felder now before the action drives it deeper into the chalk.
