UFC 312: Du Plessis vs. Strickland Betting

Dricus Du Plessis (22-2, 8-0 UFC)

Du Plessis came into the UFC with a record of 14-2 and he has eight wins and no losses in the UFC. He defeated Markus Perez by KO, Trevin Giles by KO, Brad Tavares by unanimous decision, Darren Till by face crank submission, Derek Brunson by TKO, Robert Whittaker by TKO, Sean Strickland by split decision, and Israel Adesanya by face crank submission. Du Plessis’s last loss in his career was against Roberto Soldic by KO in October of 2018. Du Plessis has been a pro since 2013 and he has nine wins by TKO/KO and 11 by submission. He has eight first round finishes.

Du Plessis said this to bloodyelbow.com about his upcoming fight against Strickland, “In my whole career, I’ve only went the distance twice and both have been incredible fights; I don’t mind going the distance if it’s an entertaining fight, I’ve never had a boring fight in my life… And in this fight, I know I can finish the job [inside the distance]. I don’t see this fight going – I mean, we might see the championship rounds in rounds four and five – but there’s just no way that we’re seeing the final bell… I’m prepared for a stand-up war, I’m prepared for the ground game, and I’m prepared to do whatever’s necessary [to win] this fight. It’s hard to say because we’ve been in there together, felt the power and the speed – the unfamiliarity is not as great – but now, everybody is coming in with a plan of ‘Oh, we’ve seen what he does wrong, let’s do this. We have our plans, they have their plans so it might be the exact same fight, just better, or it might be completely different on the night. Unfortunately, you can prepare as you want in terms of gameplan, but that goes out the window pretty quickly in any fight. Defensively, Sean Strickland is one of the best fighters in the world, he’s really good at that and he’s really responsible with his defense, and he prioritizes defense over offense, so he doesn’t necessarily give you the opportunity [to finish him]. I think the pace was so high in that fight, but I only started pushing the pace later in the fight where I should’ve and now, I know I can start pushing that pace from the word go.”

Sean Strickland (29-6, 16-6 UFC)

Strickland came into the UFC with a record of 13-0 and he has 16 wins and six losses in the UFC. In his last six fights, he has four wins and two losses. UFC Picks

Du Plessis is listed as about a 2-1 favorite in UFC betting odds in this fight. These two fought just over a year ago and it was Du Plessis winning a split decision. I don’t know that anything has changed since then and I am definitely not betting against a fighter in Du Plessis who is unbeaten in the UFC. I will take Du Plessis to get the win and I’ll also agree with him and take the rounds to go under the total of 4.5 at plus money.
