Alexander Volkanovski (24-1, 11-0 UFC)
Volkanovski came into the UFC with a record of 13-1 and he has 11 wins and no losses in the UFC. In his last six fights, he has six wins and no losses. He defeated Chad Mendes by TKO, José Aldo by unanimous decision, Brian Ortega by unanimous decision, Chan Sung Jung by TKO, and twice against Max Holloway with once by unanimous decision and once by split decision. Volkanovski’s only loss in his career was against Corey Nelson by TKO in May of 2013. Volkanovski has been a pro since 2012 and he has 12 wins by TKO/KO and three by submission. He has seven first round finishes.
Volkanovski said this to mmajunkie.usatoday.com about his upcoming fight against Holloway, “I’m going to go out there and I plan on putting a beating on him this time. I really do want to (make) a statement. Obviously, getting a finish will really, you know, get that dominant win. (It) will definitely help that legacy that I want, as well. … This opportunity is here and I’m going to take it. It’s going to be ‘and still’ and I’m going to put on a good performance. That’s all that’s going to happen. I don’t care. I don’t care about that now. That’s not why I took this fight. It wasn’t just to shut those guys up. I did originally want this trilogy to shut people up, but right now, it’s not about that. This fight is going to be a legacy fight for me, and there’s going to be haters no matter what you do.
Max Holloway (23-6, 19-6 UFC)
Holloway came into the UFC with a record of 4-0 and he has 19 wins and six losses in the UFC. In his last six fights, he has three wins and three losses. UFC Picks
These two have already fought twice with Volkanovski winning both fights. I don’t see that anything has changed. Holloway is a tough fighter who always shows up with a good effort, but Volkanovski is simply better. I am somewhat surprised that the price on Volkanovski is not higher and that has me a little bit worried. I thought Volvanovski would be more than a 2-1 favorite for this fight. I still think he gets this win, but I am definitely leery. The better option for this bout is the rounds. Neither of these two fighters is known as a great finisher and both of their previous fights went the distance. I’ll take the rounds to go over the total.
