UFC 299: O'Malley vs. Vera II Betting
Dustin Poirier (29-8, 21-7 UFC)
Poirier came into the UFC with a record of 8-1 and he has 21 wins and seven losses in the UFC. In his last six fights, he has four wins and two losses. He defeated Dan Hooker by unanimous decision, Michael Chandler by rear-naked choke submission, and against Conor McGregor twice with both by TKO; while losing to Charles Oliveira by rear-naked choke submission and Justin Gaethje by KO. Poirier has been a pro since 2009 and he has 14 wins by TKO/KO and eight by submission. He has 13 first round finishes.
Poirier said this mmajunkie.usatoday.com about his upcoming fight against Saint Denis, “(I’m fighting him) to test myself really – to see if I’ve still got it. This guy is young, hungry, on a streak, finished his last five opponents – that makes me nervous, so I want to toss myself in the fire. That’s where I feel like I do my best work, and those are the kinds of fighters I want to fight – guys who are leaving it all out there, showing grit … they fight for finishes. That’s the kind of fight I want to be involved in.”
Benoit Saint Denis (13-1, 5-1 UFC)
Saint Denis came into the UFC with a record of 8-0 and he has five wins and one loss in the UFC. He defeated Niklas Stolze by rear-naked choke submission, Gabriel Miranda by TKO, Ismael Bonfim by face crank submission, Thiago Moisés by TKO, and Matt Frevola by KO; while losing to Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos by unanimous decision in October of 2021. Saint Denis has been a pro since 2019 and he has four wins by TKO/KO and nine by submission. He has seven first round finishes.
Saint Denis said this to independent.co.uk about his upcoming fight against Poirier, “I believe fights of this level are always a matter of style, and who is going to impose his style on the other. If we have a Dustin Poirier kind of fight, it’s going to be a difficult battle, but if you have a Benoit Saint-Denis kind of fight, it will be Poirier who will be in a bad position.”

UFC Picks
Saint Denis is listed as more than a 2-1 UFC betting favorite in this fight. I am definitely not laying the price on Saint Denis against a fighter in Poirier who has shown in the past he can finish fights quickly. This is scheduled as a five-round fight and billed as the co-main event, but I don’t think we have to worry about the fight going five rounds, as both of these fighters have finishing ability. Oddsmakers agree, as the rounds are listed at either 1.5 or 2.5. It is a nice plus money price on the rounds to go under 1.5 and I think there is a decent chance we get a quick finish one way or the other.
