UFC Picks
Fialho will be fighting for the fifth time in 2022, but his first since UFC 275 in June, where he was beaten by Jake Matthews. Salikhov had his five-fight winning streak stopped by Li Jingliang in July. Fialho is 2-2 in the UFC with a couple of good wins against Miguel Baeza and Camero VanCamp. Fialho won each of those fights by knockout and he was very impressive. The problem he has this time around is that Salikhov is better than either of the fighters he beat. Salikhov is 5-2 record in the UFC. The way to beat Salikhov is by getting him to the mat, as Alex Garcia did in 2017. Fialho is a fighter who wants to win by keeping the fight standing. That type of fight is usually fine with Salikhov who has powerful and accurate strikes. Most of the wins by Salikhov have come by knockout.
I am really surprised at the price on this fight, as I think Salikhov is the better fighter and yet, he is listed as just a -130 favorite. Oftentimes in the UFC I will look to take either a fighter or the rounds option. There are occasions where I will take both a fighter and the rounds, but it doesn’t happen regularly. In this fight I think you can make a good case for making two plays. Salikhov has simply fought better competition in his career than has Fialho. Perhaps Fialho is ready to make the step up to take on Salikhov, but I am not so sure. I think laying the small price on Salikhov is worth a play.
I also think the rounds are worth playing and perhaps that is the best option for this fight. These two fighters are finishers, as they have combined for 25 knockouts. Both fighters want this bout to be one that has a lot of action so we should see a lot of punches thrown. I can’t see this fight going the distance, so I will go under the rounds total.
