UFC Picks
Swanson returns to the featherweight division to take on the former champion of the division, Dawodu. Swanson's most recent fight was a knockout loss to Jonathan Martinez last October, while Dawodu's most recent bout was a unanimous decision loss to Julien Erosa last September. There is no secret to what Swanson wants to do, as he wants to stand and trade big shots. He has been able to land a significant number of significant strikes inside the Octagon. His striking defense stands at 60%, while his takedown defense stands at 61%. Swanson is averaging 4.68 meaningful strikes per minute, and has absorbed 3.73 of his own. The problem for Swanson is that he has not had much success against the top fighters in the division. The majority of his fights have been against the lower-ranked fighters.
Dawodu is also one that looks to trade shots, so this fight is one that should see a lot of action. Dawodu lands more strikes per minute than does Swanson and he has to absorb less strikes. Dawodu also looks to have more power, but there is no question that Swanson has the ability to land a big shot.
Dawodu is listed as about a 2-1 favorite in this fight and while he should get the win, I don’t know that I want to lay 2-1 in UFC odds on him. I think the better choice is the rounds option. Both of these fighters have finishing power and there doesn’t seem to be much chance of this one going to the mat. It should be a fight where the two just stand and trade big shots. That should result in an exciting fight for as long as it lasts. I’ll go under the rounds total in this fight.
