Vieira said this to bloodyelbow.com about her upcoming fight against Holm, “I’m moved by challenges. I like that, it keeps me focused, hungry, I know I can’t make mistakes. Holly has a really solid striking game, she’s a big name in boxing and kickboxing and I believe I have a good grappling game. She’s very experienced. Sometimes she feels like things are difficult on the feet and she tries to grapple you. She does MMA really well. I’m sure she expects me to take her down, so I need to be ready to impose my game plan and I’ve been practicing quite a few.”

UFC Picks
Holm has not fought in almost two years, yet she is more than a 2-1 favorite in UFC odds. That means the oddsmakers think that Holm is still worth backing or they don’t think much of Vieira. I think it is a bit of both. Holm has actually won her last two bouts and there is no question she has a lot of experience. Vieira dominated Miesha Tate last time out and she is getting a big chance against Holm. This fight is a contrast of styles, as Holm is the boxer, while Vieira is the grappler. Holm has shown she can go five rounds, while Vieira doesn’t have that experience.
One thing I know for sure is that I am not laying 2-1 on Holly Holm, period. I don’t think she should be headlining a main event and despite winning her last two fights, I just don’t think she is a title contender at 40-years old. This would seem to be a good spot for Vieira but I don’t know that she is really that good. Beating Tate last time out doesn’t do anything for me. If you want to take a flyer on Vieira at the plus money I won’t argue, but I think the better choice is the rounds. Neither of these two is much of a finisher, so I will take the rounds to go over the total.
