The Stakes
Jairzinho Rozenstruik tried to be the new Francis Ngannou, until he ran into the old Francis Ngannou and got Ngann-ocked out. The fearsome killshot hitter bounced back with a win (by knockout, what else) over JDS, adding to a resume that already features knockouts of Alistair Overeem and Francis Ngannou. Enter Ciryl Gane. Best known as a training partner of Ngannou, Gane is going through his own meteoric rise, winning his first four UFC fights - with three coming by way of submission. Now, he gets a shot to launch himself into a title contention should he get past the No. 3 big man.
Jairzinho Rozenstruik (11-1, 10 KOs)
What do we know about Bigi Boi? For sure that the Surinamese fighter hits really, really hard. Like “one punch split Alistair Overeem’s top lip into two” hard. 9 of his 10 pro wins have come by knockout, and 8 of those KOs came within two rounds. At 6’2”, 248 pounds, the 32-year old has the luxury of slowly biding his time, then unleashing an explosive barrage of fight-ending strikes. One-hitter quitter ability is the ultimate neutralizer.
But we also know that Overeem was soundly outstriking him for the better course of five rounds, and Dos Santos was able to take a round off him before getting caught. This suggests that his technique still has a long way to go to catch up with his power.
What we don’t know is what happens if he ever meets a strong wrestler like Curtis Blaydes of Stipe Miocic. For somebody that’s still relatively new to MMA, Rozenstruik probably wouldn’t fare so well against a wrestler.
Cyril Gane (7-0, 3 KOs, 3 SUBs)
Them Frenchies must have something in the water considering the physical specimens the country is putting into the UFC heavyweight division. Gane is 6’5”, 250 pounds and absolutely jacked. At 30 years old, he’s still young by divisional standards, and is already one of the better athletes in the division. Despite his size and athleticism, he’s not trucking dudes over with physicality - he has an equal number of subs and knockouts under his built as a dual-threat finisher.
Once an aspiring pro kickboxer, Gane transitioned to MMA and dominated the Canadian regional scene. The UFC fell in love with his talent and wasted no time signing him and putting him to work. You’ve got to love his kickboxing base, as it is both technical and powerful, but even more impressive is his submissions skills for somebody who hasn’t been rolling for that long. Top it off with an excellent gas tank and you’re looking at a top-5 future fighter.

UFC Picks
The UFC odds at BookMaker.eu opened with Gane as a -285 favorite, with Rozenstruik at +218 on the comeback. We think that’s a fair price on both, as Gane brings so much more skill to the table. Like Overeem and JDS before him, Gane will be able to win a sparring match, but he has the chin, size and speed to survive an onslaught. Because the price is expensive, we’re recommending to take him inside the distance, as these two rarely ever see the scorecards.
