Emmett said this to news4jax.com about his upcoming fight against Topuria, “First and foremost, I just have to go out there, get my hand raised and then I’ll cross that bridge when we get there. But I do feel like I’ll be right back in the same position I was just in. You never know, my next fight can be possibly for a title eliminator or you never know what the state of the division and where people are at with injuries. And opportunities pop up here and there. You just always have to be ready. But I have to go and beat Ilia first. Otherwise, none of that matters. I fought a lot of guys that are similar to him. Same body style, well-rounded fighters just like he is. I was also young and undefeated before I got in the UFC, and when I was in the UFC for a little while … I feel like I know how he feels, like how he’s thinking and carries himself. So, I’ll take the experience all day and he’s never fought anyone like me.”
Ilia Topuria (13-0, 5-0 UFC)
Topuria came into the UFC with a record of 8-0 and he has five wins and no losses in the UFC. He defeated Youssef Zalal by unanimous decision, Damon Jackson by KO, Ryan Hall by KO, Jai Herbert by KO, and Bryce Mitchell by arm-triangle choke submission. Topuria has been a pro since 2015 and he has four wins by TKO/KO and eight by submission. He has nine first round finishes.
Topuria said this to supersport.com about his upcoming fight against Emmett, “Josh Emmett has nothing to lose. He’s fighting a superstar. He’ll be proud to share the cage with me for the rest of his life. He’ll tell his kids that he was there with me one time. He’s perfect to be finished in the first round. His style matches with mine in a way that I will shine that night. My only concern is that he shows up on the night of the fight.”

UFC Picks
Just how good is Topuria? That is obviously the question you have to answer if you want to lay more than 3-1 on him. While I think Topuria is really good, I don’t lay 3-1 on anyone and I am not doing it here. I have been on a pretty good run with the rounds options in recent fights and I’ll look at that option here. We know that Topuria would like to get this fight to the mat and I see no reason that won’t happen, as Emmett’s takedown defense is nothing special. I don’t see this one going the distance, as a Topuria finish is the most likely outcome, so I will go under the rounds total.
