UFC Fight Night: Thompson vs. Holland Betting
Kevin Holland (23-8, 10-5 UFC)
Holland came into the UFC with a record of 13-3 and he has 10 wins and five losses in the UFC. In his last six fights, he has three wins and three losses. He defeated Ronaldo Souza by KO, Alex Oliveira by TKO, and Tim Means by D’Arce choke submission, while losing to Derek Brunson by unanimous decision, Marvin Vettori by unanimous decision, and Khamzat Chimaev by D’Arce choke submission. Holland has been a pro since 2015 and he has 13 wins by TKO/KO and six by submission. He has 11 first round finishes.
Holland said this to mmajunkie.usatoday.com about his upcoming fight against Thompson, “It’s not really a stand-and-bang (fight), it’s a real technical standup fight, and you have to implement certain things to get to ‘Wonderboy’ and have your way with ‘Wonderboy,’ I plan on implementing those things, and I plan on showing that I can strike with the best of them. It’s just a very, very fun matchup. Talk about a guy that’s fought for a world title, that’s fought some of the best out there at the top of the weight class for a long time. If you do want a number next to your name, you have to go through somebody like that. He’s lost to people who’ve decided to grapple the whole time. People who decide to strike with him usually don’t have a good night, unless you’re Anthony Pettis. I think I’m just as creative as Anthony, even though he’s shown a lot of creativity inside that octagon, that cage. But yeah, against ‘Wonderboy’ there’s only one way to go, and that’s forward.”
Stephen Thompson (16-6-1, 11-6-1 UFC)
Thompson came into the UFC with a record of 5-0 and he has 11 wins, six losses, and one draw in the UFC. In his last six fights, he has two wins and four losses. He defeated Vicente Luque by unanimous decision and Geoff Neal by unanimous decision; while losing to Darren Till by unanimous decision, Anthony Pettis by KO, Gilbert Burns by unanimous decision, and Belal Muhammad by unanimous decision. Thompson has been a pro since 2010 and he has seven wins by TKO/KO and one by submission. He has five first round finishes.
Thompson said this to middleeasy.com about his upcoming fight against Holland, “Kevin’s the type of guy, type of fighter that gets better every time he fights. He did very well in the 185-pound division. Knocked out Jacre Sousa from his back, which is unheard of and he’s got great jiu-jitsu. He’s actually a black belt under Travis Lutter and Travis Lutter is under my brother-in-law Carlos Machado, so we got a little lineage there, you know what I mean? Jiu-jitsu lineage there with Kevin Holland. So, I think it’s great, man. The Guys’ a superhero. He’s very tall. He’s got an 81-inch reach which is ridiculous. That’s going to be fun to navigate throughout the fight, but I’m looking forward to it. Kevin Holland has a name. He did very well, like I said, very well in the 185 division and if he’s not ranked in the 170 division, he will be very soon. He’s faced some really good guys in this division and he’s a very exciting fighter and a great stand-up fighter.”

UFC Picks
This should be an excellent main event, as both of these fighters have similar skill sets. They each like to trade shots, so we should see a lot of action and each is tough to finish so the fight may last a while. I don’t see a big advantage one way or the other, so taking the plus price on Thompson is at least worth considering. The rounds are also interesting, as we can get plus money on this fight going over 4.5 rounds. I would prefer to get 2.5 or 3.5 rounds so I will look at the props, but regardless I like the fight to go over the rounds total.
