Whittaker said this to bjpenn.com about his upcoming fight against Aliskerov, “He’s a dangerous guy, got a really good skillset. The (betting) odds display that. I understand the type of fight it’s going to be, in some ways, it could be harder than Chimaev, but I’m fit, ready, and loaded to get this done…I watched some footage, some tape…he knows what he’s good at and he uses it to great effect. And I think the mentality behind stepping up to the plate, last minute, with everything to gain…nothing to lose, I expect him to come out really hard, aggressive and bring that (scrap).”
Ikram Aliskerov (15-1, 2-0 UFC)
Aliskerov came into the UFC with a record of 13-1 and he has two wins and no losses in the UFC. He defeated Phil Hawes by KO and Warlley Alves by TKO. Aliskerov’s only loss in his career was against Khamzat Chimaev by KO in April of 2019. Aliskerov has been a pro since 2012 and he has six wins by TKO/KO and five by submission. He has seven first round finishes.
Aliskerov said this to bloodyelbow.com about his upcoming fight against Whittaker, “After I took the fight I called Khabib. He said ‘You can’t miss these chances; you have to fly here and sweat for 2-3 days.’ We discussed (the fight). (He said) ‘Pay attention because he’s a striker, be attentive and everything will work out’. Whittaker isn’t a young guy (but) he’s an elite middleweight and one of the best fighters in the world, anything can happen.”

UFC Picks
It was supposed to be Whittaker taking on Khamzat Chimaev in this main event fight, but Chimaev got sick and had to be replaced. Whittaker has fought a lot of good fighters in his career and never backs down from a challenge. Aliskerov was going to be fighting Antonio Trocoli in Las Vegas but now he gets a big fight against Whittaker. There is no denying that Aliskerov has been extremely impressive in winning his first two UFC fights but this is a big step up in competition.
The question in this fight is whether or not Aliskerov is ready for the big time and to ready to take on a fighter like Whittaker. The UFC betting odds suggest he just might be, as Whittaker is just a slight favorite. I think I’ll pass on picking a winner and instead look at the rounds. The rounds are listed at 2.5 with the over at -160. I am a little surprised the rounds are this low. Whittaker doesn’t have a ton of power and unless Aliskerov is a future star, it is hard to see him getting a quick knockout in this fight. I’ll go over 2.5 rounds as my top play in this fight.
