Santos said this to sherdog.com about his upcoming fight against Ankalaev, “Magomed Ankalaev is below me on the rankings, but he’s on a great winning streak. He’s a very good fighter. I think it’s going to be an excellent fight, which will reveal who the next belt challenger should be. Although, I do feel I’d still need one more win after this fight. We never really know. These types of opportunities can show up unexpectedly. We have to stay ready. My focus right now is on having a good victory against Ankalaev. And then we’ll see what’s next.”

UFC Picks
Has Santos really fallen so far as to be a huge underdog against a fighter in Ankalaev who has yet to face the best in his division? It was just three years ago that Santos fought Jon Jones for the title and he nearly beat Jones. Santos did lose his following two fights, but I don’t think there is any shame in losing to Glover Teixeira and Alexsandar Rakic. Santos didn’t look great against Johnny Walker last time out, but he still got the unanimous decision win. I know that Ankalaev has done nothing wrong and has won his last seven bouts, but his level of competition hasn’t been that great. There is no way I would lay this type of price on Ankalaev and I think there is some value on Santos at the big price. I also think the rounds are worth playing, as I see this fight being a battle throughout with neither fighter getting the finish. I will go over the rounds total in this bout.
