UFC on ESPN+ 10 Odds - Davi Ramos vs. Austin Hubbard Betting Picks

Davi Ramos vs. Austin Hubbard

Lightweight Brazilian jiu-jitsu wizard Davi Ramos (9-2, 1 KO, 7 SUBs) will meet former LFA champion Austin Hubbard (10-2, 4 KOs, 2 SUBs) at UFC on ESPN+ 9 on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, New York. The card streams live on ESPN+ starting 8pm ET.

It’s tough to make a name for yourself as prospect in the lightweight division. But this Saturday, two unknowns in Davi Ramos and Austin Hubbard will get the opportunity to showcase their skills on the main card of a New York event.

The 32-year old Ramos is making his fourth UFC appearance. After losing his debut to Sergio Moraes, the Brazilian has ripped off three straight wins by submission. In nine career victories, “The Tasmanian Devil” has forced seven taps - not a guy you want to tangle with on the mat. Prior to the UFC, the Team Nogueira product notably fought in RFA and Bellator.

Hubbard, a former LFA champ, makes his UFC debut on the strength of a violent knockout of Killys Mota. The win brought his record to 10-2 overall, an impressive feat for somebody who is just 27 years old. Of course, Hubbard trains with the Elevation Fight Team, whose stable of fighters include former bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw, heavyweight contender Curtis Blaydes, and an excellent striking coach in Duane Ludwig.

Obviously, Hubbard is going to want to keep this on the feet. Ramos is a former jiu-jitsu champion whose skills have translated to MMA. This is one of those fights where you can assume the minute it hits the mat is the beginning of the end.

Hubbard is well aware of his opponent’s grappling prowess, as he stated that “the past couple of months…we’ve been working what we call grappling boxing or anti-jiu-jitsu. A lot of shutdown spots in which I think is going to be very important in this fight, he’s a high level black belt. Obviously...me, I might catch him in a submission, but that’s not my gameplan. So I think the shutdown jiu-jitsu is going to be very key in this fight.”

The Brazilian’s slow kickboxing game can be tedious to watch, but he does possess a solid low kick and some pop in his followup punches. However, his takedown attempts have steadily increased in recent fights, to the point where he lands over three per 15 minutes at a better than 50% clip.

UFC Odds Pick: Ramos to win at -425

Even if Hubbard keeps this on the feet, we’re just not sure how he fares against a higher-ceilinged fighter with more octagon experience. The Elevation Fight Team rep might be able to shake off the takedown attempts early, but we see him eventually winding up on the mat and tapping to an expert Ramos sub.
