When it comes to fan-friendly slobberknockers, few welterweights are as consistent as Tim Means. Unfortunately, that’s led to a lot of inconsistency in his record: just 2-3 in his past five fights, “The Dirty Bird” will look to build on a win over Ricky Rainey this Saturday when he meets Niko Price.
Price is no stranger to bangers, either. A shredded, athletic fighter with 11 finishes in 12 career wins, Price had a two-fight win streak snapped when he was knocked out by Abdul Razak Alhassan at UFC 228. It’s sad to say, but the 34-year old Means is fading as a fighter. While still carrying the rep as an aggressive action scrapper, his recent losses have been slow sparring sessions. Back-to-back split decision losses seems to have woken him up, as we saw a vintage Means turn in an early stoppage over Ricky Rainey. Of course, that could just have been the result of a lower level of competition.
When it comes to nicknames, there aren’t many that are fitting has Price’s “Hybrid”. As a guy that can both strike and wrestle, he really doesn’t follow a formula from fight to fight. Though his wrestling is probably his strongest skill, knockout wins over Alan Jouban and Randy Brown showed just how explosive his striking can be from all areas - he knocked out Brown with hammerfists from his back!
It’s easy to see why Price is such a big favorite here: he’s the younger, faster and more powerful fighter at this point in his career. He’s also meeting an opponent on the downslope of a career filled with bloody battles. Means’ best channel for victory is to make this a typical Means fight: ugly, gritty and soul-sucking.

This has all the makings of bounce-back matchmaking for the UFC: Price is a young, exciting fighter facing a respected-but-fading vet. Should Price’s striking fail him, he can always fall back on his wrestling and attack Means’ biggest weakness.
