This meeting between Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United will take place in an interesting venue, the University of Michigan’s football stadium. Tens of thousands are expected to show up to watch two of the biggest clubs in the world square off just a couple weeks before the start of the Premier League campaign. Both Liverpool and Manchester United are seen as favorites to win the league this year, so this match may be a foreshadowing of things to come.

This will be the third match of the International Champions Cup for Liverpool. In their first match, the club got out to a strong start as Virgil van Dijk scored in the 25th minute to give the club a 1-0 lead against Borussia Dortmund. However, then Christian Pulisic happened. Pulisic picked apart Liverpool’s back line over the last third of the match, notching two goals and setting up a third to hand the Reds a 3-1 loss.
Liverpool fared much better in their next match, once again proving to be a thorn in the side of Manchester City. The Citizens got a goal from Leroy Sane in the 57th minute to go up 1-0 on Pool, but then Mo Salah responded six minutes later to tie things up at one apiece. The match looked destined to go to penalties, but then Sadio Mane converted on a penalty four minutes into extra time to give the Reds a 2-1 victory.
For the most part, Manchester United’s game against AC Milan was nothing to write home about. Alexis Sanchez put the Red Devils up 1-0 in the 12th minute, and then Milan’s Suso responded three minutes later to level the score. The game was goalless for the next 75 minutes, leading to penalties. That’s where things changed. The clubs needed an incredible 13 rounds of penalties to determine a victor, with Manchester United eventually winning 9-8 in spot kicks.
Manchester United has two more matches in the ICC, but they are not going to have Anthony Martial and Antonio Valencia for either tilt. Martial flew back to Europe in order to see his second child born, while Valencia suffered a calf injury earlier in the week and might miss the start of the Premier League season.
Liverpool Player to Watch
Mo Salah looks like he is fully healed and ready to lead Liverpool once more. Salah was the Premier League Player of the Year last season, and he nearly led the club to a Champions League title. He didn’t feature in the first match at the ICC, but he was sublime against Manchester City on Wednesday. Salah notched a goal and could have grabbed two more, and he did it all despite playing less than half the match. He will likely see more time in this one.
Manchester United Player to Watch
It sounds like Fred will make his Manchester United debut in this match. The club made the Brazilian star their biggest offseason acquisition, paying Shakhtar Donetsk more than 50 million pounds for his services. A combination of injury and rest led to him not featuring in the first match, but he has been training with the club and Jose Mourinho is keen to see him take the field.
Free Soccer Betting Pick
Liverpool are deserved odds-on favorites in this match. The Reds have most of their stars at this point, while Manchester United still doesn’t have most of their top players. This is Liverpool’s last preseason match before the start of the Premier League, so they will look to make it count.
International Champions Cup Odds: Liverpool 2, Manchester United 1
