Champions League Betting Odds – Sevilla at Manchester United Match Preview

Champions-League-Sevilla-at-Manchester-United

Manchester United are looking to become the third English team to punch their ticket to the Champions League Quarterfinals. Liverpool and Manchester City were able to do it last week and United are looking to join them this week.

However, they don’t have an easy test. Sevilla is not having a great season, but the Spanish side are far from pushovers and won’t roll over. A single goal from them puts Manchester United in a bad spot after a 0-0 draw in the first leg.

Odds Analysis

Manchester United is considered a pretty decent favorite to advance. Old Trafford is one of the best home venues in all of football, and the club just doesn’t lose here. United have only lost to Manchester City at home all season long in the Premier League, and City are running away with the EPL title.

La Liga has not been kind to Sevilla, and they have not looked good against the top teams in Spain. They were recently hammered by Atletico Madrid at home and teams like Eibar have trounced them in recent weeks as well. With those results, you can’t have a ton of faith in Sevilla to get it done on the road.

Last Meeting

It was the David de Gea show during the first match between these two sides. Manchester United were pretty listless on offense. Their chances were few and far between and Sevilla was rarely troubled at the back. The Red Devils could only place one shot on goal the entire match.

That wasn’t the case for de Gea, who had to come up large for United time and time again. He was hounded by Ever Banega and Sevilla, needing to parry away shot after shot to keep Sevilla off the board. By the end of the match, Sevilla had put an incredible 25 shots on net.

By the end, it was clear that de Gea was the man of the match. His clean sheet makes United a sizeable favorite to advance.

Injuries to Watch

Manchester United have other issues to overcome in this one though. United are dealing with a number of injuries and Jose Mourinho will not have many first team players for the second leg.

Along the back, Phil Jones has already been counted out as he continues to recover. Mourinho is a little more optimistic about Marcus Rojo returning, but that seems unlikely too. In the midfield, Daley Blind continues to have ankle woes and Ander Herrera will not play either after going down with an injury in the first leg.

The biggest concern may be at forward. United still doesn’t have Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is a long-term scratch, and Marouane Fellaini will not be in the attack either. Anthony Martial is considered questionable too.

Sevilla has less injuries to manage, but they still hurt. Right back Sebastien Corchia has been out for six weeks with a groin injury and will miss more time. Wing Jesus Navas wreaked havoc on Manchester United in the first tilt between these sides, but he is doubtful to play in this one.

Free Soccer Betting Pick

Manchester United need to find some way to create pressure this time as even one Sevilla goal puts them in a world of trouble. This team has lacked creativity on offense and Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez have not meshed well since Sanchez was added from Arsenal at the transfer deadline.

Although de Gea is great, Sevilla are a very live dog in this one because of the injuries and the concerns surrounding United’s attack. There are worse ideas than taking a flyer on them.

Champions League Odds: Sevilla 1, Manchester United 0
