There is a lot of excitement surrounding Liverpool heading into this season. The Reds made it all the way to the Champions League Final in 2018, beating Premier League champions Manchester City in the process, and they looked like they might claim Champions League glory before Mo Salah exited with an injury. Jurgen Klopp has received plenty of praise for his team’s performance, and deservedly so.
His attacking philosophy has made Liverpool matches fun to watch, and his swashbuckling attitude is a nice change of pace. He got his first big break at Borussia Dortmund, and it will be a bittersweet homecoming when his former club and current club meet in America.
The International Champions Cup brings some of the top clubs in Europe to cities around the world that normally don’t get to see top flight football. The match will take place at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte at 4:05 p.m. ET on Saturday, July 22, 2018. Catch every moment of the match live on ESPN.

What to watch for
It turns out that Dortmund will be bringing quite a few of their stars over for their American tour. While Achraf Hakimi and Shinji Kagawa are on extended holiday following the World Cup, many of their players did not participate in the tournament.
Germany may have crashed out of this year’s World Cup, but 2014 World Cup heroes Mario Gotze and Andre Schurrle will be heading to the States for the ICC. Schurrle set up Gotze for the winning goal in the final against Argentina, and both players are expected to start for Dortmund here. Additionally, teenage American star Christian Pulisic is going to play a big role playing in front of his hometown fans.
Liverpool has some of its first-choice players on extended holiday too. Roberto Firmino and Jordan Henderson will not be joining the club in America after their countries made it to the knockout rounds of the World Cup. However, some new acquisitions might be joining the team.
The Reds spent a lot of money to try to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League this offseason, and at least two of their three big signings seem set to take the pitch in America. Youngsters Naby Keita and Fabinho are expected to make an impact in the midfield, and both players will be worth keeping an eye on. The club just completed a deal for Roma goalkeeper Alisson too, making him the most expensive goalkeeper transfer in the world.
Borussia Dortmund Player to Watch
Many of the people pulling for Dortmund in this match will be doing so because of Pulisic. As previously discussed, Pulisic is the next great thing in American soccer and many will head to the stadium just to see him in action. Although he isn’t old enough to drink, he has made an impact on both Dortmund and the U.S. Men’s National Team.
Liverpool Player to Watch
Salah is coming back from an extended period of rest and relaxation, and his health will be something Liverpool fans are keeping a close eye on. He clearly was not fully healthy at the World Cup, and his play suffered as a result. However, shoulder injuries aren’t typically long-term issues, so he might be close to 100 percent at this point. Even if he isn’t, look for him to be on the pitch for at least a little bit in what is effectively a friendly.

This is a great spot to take the underdog. Dortmund will only have one day of rest before this match, but they are bringing a large contingent to the States. Additionally, they will have an advantage on Liverpool, as the Reds are only flying out the day before and will have to make a five-hour adjustment in one day.
International Champions Cup Odds: Borussia Dortmund 2, Liverpool 1
