MLS Betting Odds – Seattle Sounders at Los Angeles Galaxy Match Preview

The Los Angeles Galaxy are happy to be back at home. They have lost three straight road games, and that has sent the club spiraling downwards in the standings. The Galaxy are trying to avoid dropping out of the playoff race, like we saw them do at the end of last season, but they are only three points clear with 10 games left to play. This club needs a win in a big way, but the Seattle Sounders won’t be an easy team to topple.

Don't miss the Major League Soccer action from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California at 10 p.m. ET on Saturday, August 17, 2019. Catch every moment of the match live on ESPN2.

Odds Analysis

Seattle might be happy to be back on the road. The Sounders picked up just one point in their last three home games, losing to Portland and lowly Sporting KC before settling for a draw against New England last weekend. Their defense has been surprisingly suspect during this time, but they are still in second place in the Western Conference with 39 points.

In their last road tilt, Seattle counterattacked brilliantly in a 1-0 win over Houston. The Dynamo are not known for their offensive prowess, preferring to counter themselves, so the Sounders put the onus on the hosts who couldn’t live up to the challenge. Seattle is 3-5-3 on the road this season.

The Galaxy are 8-4-0 at home this campaign, and the last time they played at Dignity Health, they upset league leaders Los Angeles FC 3-2 on the strength of a hat trick from Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Ibra had some strong words about LAFC prior to the game, and he cashed in in a big way. However, he and the Galaxy have been outscored 9-1 since that big win.

Key Absences

Forward Will Bruin is out for the season for Seattle. Bruin suffered a torn ACL back in June, and that has really stung the Sounders depth up front. Their defensive woes could flare up again too as midfielders Gustav Svensson and Victor Rodriguez are both questionable with strained hamstrings, and defenders Brad Smith (adductor injury) and Kelvin Leerdam (sprained ankle) are questionable too.

The Galaxy stand to be very healthy coming into this match. Midfielder Romain Alessandrini is the only player listed on the injury report, and he is a long-term injury after undergoing knee surgery back in April.

Player to Watch

Jordan Morris has looked sharp in recent weeks. Morris spent some time away from the Sounders while playing for USMNT at the Gold Cup over the summer, and he has moved around a bit since his return. He typically plays on the wing, but he has played up top in place of an injured Raul Ruidiaz in recent weeks. Morris netted the Sounders’ lone goal against Houston in the win a few weeks ago, and he notched a brace in the loss to Sporting KC.

Both clubs have a midweek match prior to this tilt on Saturday. Seattle must travel to Utah to take on Real Salt Lake, while the Galaxy host FC Dallas.

That will affect Seattle much more than it will affect the Galaxy as not only are the Sounders going to be on short rest, they will have to travel after playing a game at 4,500 feet above sea level.

This will give the Galaxy a big advantage, and as long as Ibrahimovic is healthy, I think he will lead the hosts to a win.

Major League Soccer Odds: Los Angeles Galaxy 2, Seattle Sounders 1
