Women’s tennis is wide open right now. Serena Williams is at the tail end of her career. Williams will turn 40 next month, and the 23-time Grand Slam winner hasn’t won a major in four years. That has allowed the next generation of top players to emerge, leading to 12 different women winning Grand Slam titles since Williams won her last major. Two of the three women that have won multiple majors in that stretch are favored here as Ashleigh Barty and Naomi Osaka are seen as the most reliable contenders.
The 2021 US Open will take place from August 30 to September 12, 2021. The last Grand Slam event of the tennis season will take place at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City, New York.

Favorite
Serena Williams, Venus Williams, and Sofia Kenin have all withdrawn from the US Open. This will be the first time neither WIlliams sister is at the US Open in 15 years, and their presence will be missed. As for Kenin, she was forced to withdraw after contracting COVID-19.
Ashleigh Barty is the favorite to win the 2021 Women’s US Open. She has won two majors in the last three years, but she has yet to win a Grand Slam on hard court. Barty’s previous two major victories were on clay (2019 French Open) and grass (2021 Wimbledon). The Aussie has yet to advance further than the fourth round of the US Open, but she has made the quarterfinals of the Australian Open in each of the last three seasons.
Other Contenders
Naomi Osaka is poised to take the mantle from Serena Williams as the best women’s tennis player in the world. Osaka has won four of the last 12 majors starting with the 2018 US Open. She has won this event twice and the Australian Open twice, showcasing her hard court bonafides with those victories. However, there are concerns about her state of mind and fitness after she lost in the second round of the French Open and didn’t participate in Wimbledon.
The next favorite per the tennis betting odds is Aryna Sabalenka. Although Sabalenka has yet to win a major, she made it to the semifinals of Wimbledon this summer. However, that was the first Grand Slam event where Sabalenka advanced past the fourth round, so it would be nice to see some consistency before wagering on Sabalenka at this price.
There are a few different options at 15-1. The most recent winner of the trio at this price is Barbora Krejcikova. She won the 2021 French Open to claim her first major, and she is currently the No. 5 ranked player in the world.
Last year’s French Open winner is also 15-1. Iga Swiatek became the youngest woman to win a Grand Slam event since Monica Seles when she reigned supreme at Roland Garros. Swiatek has been solid on clay in her career, but she has not advanced further than the fourth round of either the US Open or the Australian Open.
Longshots
The 2021 season has been one to forget for Bianca Andreescu. She was upset in the second round of the Australian Open and the first round of both the French Open and Wimbledon. Andreescu hasn’t been in great form over the last month either, leading to her being 30-1 in this event. The 2019 US Open winner has a better chance than you might think though.
Women’s US Open Picks
Osaka is the best bet on the board. She is more talented than any of her contemporaries, and she has the best pedigree as a four-time major winner on hard court. That makes her a decent play at +525 to win the Women’s US open.
